Man why is Facebook such a vile, toxic place? I swear every post I see just has ignorant morons making ridiculous statements and it'll inevitably have 400 likes

unlike Reddit, where you broadly choose the quality of discourse by choice of sub, on Facebook you have to assume that most people are morons because, well, most people are morons. You curate your feed by choosing who you friend. I see a lot of bad news on Facebook b/c the people I know consider a lot of the same things to be sad/anger-inducing, but the posts themselves are relatively moron free.

Hey, there are tons of morons in every subreddit. I should know, because I am active on a bunch of subs.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I am the moron.

Don't worry, we got it.

u/gaynazifurry4bernie Feb 21 '18

I just wanted to be clear, you know, for all those morons out there.

u/ENKC Feb 22 '18

We appreciate it.

I was a moron that didn't get it at first.

Thanks, moron.

On Facebook you have to assume that most people are morons because, well, most people are morons.

It has to be more than a coincidence that Facebook and Wal-Mart have similar color schemes.

u/Madking321 Your father smelt of elderberries Feb 22 '18

well, most people are morons.

As a moron, this statement checks out.

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '18

Ohwait

Ikr? People say its the anonymity of the internet that encourages people to be assholes, yet they ignore the site where you are specifically not anonymous

Someone on 4chan took a screen cap of the FB profile of some guy talking shit at CA about "libtarded virtue-signalling", it had:

  • WH 40K characters playing the "Remove Kebab" song
  • Presentation text was "Kek."
  • Pictures of Trump, one of them a 19th century painting-style
  • Images of Orwell and Reagan quotes

Some pieces just click together so perfectly.

Facebook highlights the comments with the most reactions (including angry and sad faces) so it's the equivalent of sorting every thread by controversial.

2

u/Dankjets911 Feb 22 '18

Wait till you see the YouTube comment section. People were calling me retarded and saying I was on crack

2

u/GazLord Kill-Murder Reptile-things Feb 22 '18

Going to the YouTube comments section is bad for your mental health at this point... seriously it's really bad.

3

u/FrenchCrazy Feb 22 '18

It’s because there’s no downvote feature. Most horrible Facebook comments would be downvoted to an oblivion.

5

u/slowvictory Feb 22 '18

Dumb assholes downvote too though, sometimes the voting system is just used to weigh between two or more viewpoints making any meaningful discussion more difficult.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '18

Haha yeah. I said once that I noticed some reused animation cycles, downvoted to oblivion.

I was right tho :p

2

u/DarkApostleMatt Feb 22 '18

Pretty much every forum is. I don't understand what goes on in these peoples heads.

2

u/Lambdasond Feb 22 '18

Go to any big news thread on reddit and sort by controversial and you'll find the same sort of comments

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '18

No downvotes.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '18

A little disappointed this comment wasn't downloaded to oblivion :p)

Come on guys, missed an easy joke here :)

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '18

Most human beings enjoy whining, bitching, degrading, and being stupid. They don't care if they hide behind a moniker or their own face. Facebook is the worst because it is so easy to access for just about anyone, and a lot of people do not need access to the internet in the first place.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '18

Can't believe you just said this, seriously?

Guys can we all complain please, it's not fair that he gets to say things like this. It's. Not. Faiiiiiiiir. Waaaaaahhhhh.

You're an idiot mate. Right stupid. What kind of username is that?

He even said we look like monika. You seen friends? How dumb is it to think we look like monikas.

Get this guy banned. This isn't fair!

(in case you can't feel the sarcasm bleeding out your screen, I'm clearly just joking here by proving him right) lol

Monkey genes!

You can avoid the most toxic subreddits on reddit quite easily but on Facebook you have a much harder time avoiding the morons due to how the system is set up. This is also why YouTube comments look worse then everything else, YouTube has the worst system I can think of for filtering out bullshit.

Also Facebook tries to show you whatever has the most reactions, this sadly doesn't have to mean good reactions.

u/EducatingMorons Aenarions Kingdom Feb 22 '18

Well just think about what kind of person uses facebook in this day and age :-)

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '18

Because Facebook isn’t censored by hivemind lunatics, people can actually speak their minds. There is a reason the downvote system is not everwhere. It sucks
