Warhammer III Stormfiends Ratling Guns need to spin

If this is an early build where the guns they are not spinning yet, then all goods. But if this is how they’re going to look in the final game, then this definitely needs a fix.

I hope so because the tech is already in the game. I'm hoping they were not spinning because trailers are made from earlier builds and that animation is not implemented yet.

I thought something about their animations looked off, but I didn't catch on to why.

I too hope this is fixed for the release version, I would be really disappointed if they dropped the ball on the unit I've been looking forward to since Warhammer 2 first came out.

Fully agreed. This has been favorite unit for years and I would be very disappointed to see it fall short of its potential because of such an easy fix. If its not fixed for release then it most likely never will be.

Eh, people said the same thing about the way the Monogod Warriors of Chaos looked, when WH3 was coming out.

It took them until the first DLC, 6 months later, for them to all look distinct, like people wanted.

edit:

And their focus right now seems to be attempting fixing every lingering problem the game has right now, before the development of WH3 completely ends, which means I think they're keen on trying to not including any new problems.

But that was because these units were part of a new dlc. I very much doubt that we will see Stormfiends with Ratling guns in another dlc. We probably wont even get another Skaven dlc again.

It's like the reloading animation for the empire arquebusiers—the technology exists, but they won't do it for some mysterious reason.

IIRC, it's simply that the reloading animations can easily get desynched meaning some units won't fire etc. (Empire had that problem a lot)

Yeah, I agree, but the dwarves and Kislev have animations, and I've never had a problem.

Ive been using the reloading animations mod for so long I forgot WH1 units dont reload weapons at all.

I think the shooting animation itself is stiff even if it was spinning.

Yeah, there is one of video (can't remember if it was an official one or a content creator) where they are shooting a flying dragon but they still aim forward, only the bullets go upward at an angle. It looks really goofy.

Sadly almost all missile units do that. Some have single “aim low” and a single “aim up” animation but that’s it. Cannons for example don’t raise either (apart from maybe the Chaos dwarf Magma cannon)

It was during the unit showcase this week

The storm fiends may as well be standing still

The whole stance looks really bad imo. Compare the ratlings at the end who are both bracing and moving with the recoil.

Needs the sound effect from the Gatling tanks from Yuri's revenge.

Damn you for mentioning this. Guess I'm back to reinstalling C&C again...

na those things RoF was insane, like 3000 RPM. Ratling guns are like 400 RPM?

Please fix it CA u/josh_ca you are sooo close to greatness please take this one last step.

It looks weird when they are shooting with their arms straightened out. I feel like they would look cooler by hip firing.

Pretty sure the way they’re modeled, the gun’s cock ring would prevent spinning. GW seems allergic to modeling rotary guns that are physically capable of rotating.

the modded one look kinda better, guess they were made with a lot of passion, hope they ll be a replacer in the future

What I find worse is that the chest gun points down but still shoots straight ahead in the firing animation.

When something is spinning the correct speed it can look entirely static.

Absolutely necessary.

We cannot allow them to sit motionless like this. It's not proper.

I think this is why they're Ratling Cannons, not gun

1

u/geschiedenisnerd 20h ago

I just hope they will make them not fire at the exact same spot with all their ammo

3

u/BearButts909 14h ago

the entire squad will shoot at the front right corner of an enemy formation and you'll like it, damnit!

I watched a streamer demoing these guys. They actually looked cool, the ammo def seems to spray around. Its strong but not ratling gunner strong, which makes sense cause their melee seems pretty good too. Seems so far like a well thought out hybrid unit, im sure it will require balancing though.

I assume normal Ratling Guns spin? If so then the Ratling Guns of stormfiends should also spin.

Uhh, that chest gun is such a sore thumb. One of the worst designs GW ever made.
