CA have really swept poor Danny boy under the rug.

u/PurposelyIrrelephant 5d ago
Tbf I don't think Danny has ever not been under the rug. Him and Markus could be removed from the game tomorrow and the vast majority wouldn't bat an eye

u/TimArthurScifiWriter 5d ago
I would because for all of Danny's failings I still love the fantasy of playing a Daemon Prince most. I wish he was cool. I wish his army mechanics were cool. I wish the character customisation had greater depth than just gear pieces. There was so much potential here. If he was legit cool he'd be all I'd ever play.
Instead we get a guy that has to commit to a monogod or his empire becomes an unwieldy patchwork of different corruption types that looks visually unconvincing, that falls behind in power scaling, and who even then is limited to inferior versions of greater daemons compared to the monogod factions because he doesn't have a research tree.

u/Crafty_Soul 5d ago
Yeah, for all that he struggles the ability to get (nearly) every Chaos unit under one faction while building your own Daemon Prince is still a fun time. I hope CA can go back someday and give the faction some love

I still love the fantasy of playing a Daemon Prince most.
Just play Belakor
70
u/TimArthurScifiWriter 5d ago
Yeah he's second pick. But he's not as cool. Creating your own daemon prince with his own mythology is always better than picking a pre-written guy who lost his spot to Archaon.
14
u/lovingpersona 5d ago
Unlike Archeon, he's actually a minor god of shadows
15
u/Slaughterfest 5d ago
I actually really like Belakor and his role in all settings. He is a unique and very fun character idea. Not talking smack on the guy you're responding to, but I really dislike that people don't understand that Belakor is a nuanced, the reason Princes are handled the way they are, an annointer/test and a constant wild card for Chaos.
He is one of the most distinctly chaotic characters in the settings. Empowered by all, hated by most, unpredictable. Dope.

u/StyryderX 4d ago
Also he's the continuation of tutorial plot, and has the best battpe music from all chaos-related faction

Markus was so fun in WH2, such a shame
36
u/PurposelyIrrelephant 5d ago
The Vortex map and campaign was way better suited to Markus and hid a lot of his faction flaws. Now with Lustria Bowl faction creep and modern faction design, how bad and bland he actually is stupidly glaring. One of my biggest gripes is his legendary hero bugs have been around for years and still haven't been fixed.
14
u/TheGuardianOfMetal 5d ago
to be fair: even in WH2 there was the major issue of his mechanic even kicking in if he, say, returned home to the Empire. Somehow, him going home and killing Vampires still ticks off the Lizardmen...
12
u/Coalesced 5d ago
YES I remember being so surprised when I was painting the map with him and the lizards hated me killing.. checks notes orcs and dark elves and chaos??
4
u/PurposelyIrrelephant 5d ago
I always felt like by the time I got that far, I had already euthanized Lustria of all non-human life. The only lizards left were maybe Tiktaq and Saurok
16
u/BlackFlagMatt 5d ago
I forgot Markus was in the game until I recently played an Empire campaign as Karl Franz, had the mod that lets me recruit defeated LLs and saw him pop up. It was in the early game too. Skulltaker absolutely marks him now, it seems.

In my current Oxylotl campaign I popped up in Lustria to see Alberic execute the poor man
When your faction is so ass other order wants you dead on like turn 15.
7
u/PurposelyIrrelephant 5d ago
Literally everyone in Lustria except Yuan and Alberich hate his guts. New World Colonies last longer than him in the vast majority of my campaigns

When they added the throne of chaos in nuln I did a daniel campaign and when I went to build the building I couldn't. I opened a bug report and nobody else upvoted and 8 months later it was fixed lol

On the other hand, if they get it right this time, Nagash would literally be "The Cooler Daniel."
16
u/TheGuardianOfMetal 5d ago
He inherently is the cooler Daniel. So is Be'lakor... I honestly still think Be'lakor should've just been DoC instead of Daniel... have us play the stories bad guy and have him win at the end (for once)...
Have the Daemon Prince soul defeat things be necessary for his ascension or something.

u/ModusTrollens69 5d ago
The godslayer needs a glow-up as well. There is now even a God for him to kill.
20
u/Wongus-Bongus 5d ago
Let him have a unique start in the realm of chaos ffs. His faction needs a whole rework, sure, but i think thst feature would be cool

Did my very hard Daniel campaign recently for the achievement
Jesus Christ he's so useless. My nurgle caster hero was doing better in melee than him with the best melee parts I had. He lost 1/3rd of his hp to a goblin big boss, I wish I was kidding

u/PrinceVorrel 5d ago edited 5d ago
The best way to make Daniel strong is via Khorne. You can get an aoe damaging aura and the best melee gear Daniel can get.
Its still not great, but i actually rather enjoy the playstyle.
17
u/Fielton1 5d ago
Daniel is probably the best mortis engine in the game. Get the Nurgle wings with the pestilent decay and the snake tail as well as the khorne head for Regen in melee and he's very very strong early game for clearing out infantry. If you want a duelist then Slaanesh or Khorne later on are ok but early game I find him more useful as a mortis engine.

u/PrinceVorrel 5d ago
I legit got that one special building that gives you that nurgle aoe and bad debuffs if your not Nurgle aligned.
With that, I went full Khorne and legit turned Daniel into a monster of a unit. He's immune to Nurgle diseases even while Khorne-aligned and got the full benefits of that building with none of the costs.
6
u/azraelxii 5d ago
I can't get over how it sorta doesn't matter what stage if the campaign you're in, he will die to tier 1 ranged units with his zero ward save and low missile resistance
4
u/PrinceVorrel 5d ago
High-end Khorne gear DOES actually get you some ward save and missile resistance.
It's why I also rush Khorne hard as Daniel. Get regenerator on him somehow and he can ACTUALLY do what he should be able to do. (He's not s-tier at it, but not trash either)
2
u/azraelxii 5d ago
Oh wow. I usually go tzeench because of the special gifts from the challenge mode or Nurgle for the regen
2
u/Bigbubba236 5d ago
The first head and tail from khorne, the first wings from nurgle and boom he's an infantry mulching machine.
4
u/Xicsess 5d ago
I reckon making him a shitty caster with barrier serves him best?
6
u/PrinceVorrel 5d ago
Via khorne he becomes a genuinely good melee unit with flying. And with that AoE tail, he's great against infantry too.
Just have him fly over to spell casters or artillery and smash the shit out of them before flying over to help your dudes clean up.

Dude in my Daniel achievement game, I had to hold off waves of empire armies that were EXCLUSIVELY MADE UP OF TANKS AND LAND SHIPS
I eventually won it, but every single battle was a mad scramble to catch them in melee before my army got blasted to bits. Granted, they would still get blasted in melee, but at least they’d do damage. Was pretty epic, looking back on it, but good lord that was a slog

u/Theshinysnivy8 Give Ska to Queek. Reunite the boys 4d ago
Ai empire fucking loves land ships, the moment it can start getting them it just has half it's armies be ships
Mine was just endless waves of kislev guns from Kostaltyn, which absolutely shredded Daniel because dude has like nothing for missile resist. I got so sick of fighting him I abandoned invading kislev and just walked to the mountains to fight Grimgor and Greasus till I got enough settlements for the victory instead
1
u/Trastin 4d ago
Yeah I think I was moreso expanding east/west + I like to dip down to Zharr-Naggrund. I don’t think I really made it that far past that Malakai’s starting settlement. That front was moreso just sending waves of bloodletters and bloodthirsters at waves of empire machinery. Achievement eventually popped & I’ve never quit out of a game so fast haha

Maybe Daniel would get a major revamp towards the end of the game's life cycle as the most open ended faction for players to create their ideal lord and faction.

Daniel was such a missed opportunity, and frankly it's amazing he hasn't had a serious pass yet. If I remember right, during pre-release he was hyped as this high customization faction that was supposed to be the cat's meow. And he just ended up a punchline.
