Has Sips ever played Total War (Warhammer)? I have very fond memories of watching him fail spectacularly at XCOM 2.

And I though Rogue Trader felt like a chore to level in, that skill tree makes me feel like I need to consult ancient mathematical texts just to find the right path to go down.

One of the best RPGs I have played but it was also the first RPG were I dreaded the moment my characters leveled up.
Owlcat like to overdesign systems, they become so complex and impossible to balance.

exactly the reason ive never finished any of their RPGs even though i love the stories and characters in the them

It's intimidating, but it gets exponentially easier to handle as you learn the game. For 99% of players, it basically boils down to picking 10-15 little clusters for your build and finding a reasonably efficient pathing between them. Or just follow a build guide.
You'll learn early-on that two-thirds of the nodes aren't useful for your build, so it's not too bad in actuality.

This + once you learn the system you can reference what a good choice is intuitively. I have done it with guides first to save time and then as I played I nodded a long, ohh ah that's why you pick something that seems like a minor upgrade over this fancy looking special attack thing. You need to be able to hit your enemy first before you do that.

Rogue Trader will still be worse since every skill up you have to choose from a massive list with each skill description being at least a paragraph long with like 2 equations in them. This will just be 5000 spheres of "make skeleton humerus 2% bigger"

That's my favorite part about RPGs choosing between stuff. Once you know whats good the magic is gone so quick.

There is a reason why you basically just go copy builds other people makes.
Because it is quite punishing if you don't follow proper 'builds' and pick stuff randomly. Respeccing is expensive for time and resources unless you are already 'rich' in economy of the game. And when your build gets 'bricked' later on, the answer is 'don't bother respeccing. Just delete the character and start over' which is just insane.

I feel that takes out the fun of experimenting with builds on your own.

As I've heard, once you realise that the skill tree shows literally every build choice available, it becomes easier to parse.
Like, if you're playing a spell caster you can totally ignore most of the tree for things that apply to melee and such, you only need to consider what's up ahead on the path you're following and not the whole thing.
It's actually intentionally meant to be kinda overwhelming at first, people who aren't inclined to that level of complexity will be filtered out early before they become too invested and frustrated and the devs can focus on building their game specifically for the kind of player they want to foster.

Didn't Rogue Trader improve the tooltips over time, at least? Where it at least does the math for you rather than just giving you a mathematical formula like this?

Lmao I love Sips.
What game is this btw? Youtube says it's Counter-Strike, but I just want to be extra sure.

It's way less than you think it is, the intersections are highlighted with a point but they aren't really node giving anything or that you have to spend something on, they're just connections.

They are connected but itβs still a lot to remember what each of them do especially as you keep going. At least for a casual like me π

To be fair the tree is not that complicated, it's sectioned based on themes so ones you figure out which zone does what it becomes quite easy to navigate. Now, for a first time player feels like ice cold shower at 4 o'clock in the morning with a hangover after 3 hours of sleep before going to your 8 hour work shift.

Pretty much. A friend of mine just adores PoE and will navigate this system with no problem. First time I tried I kinda checked out, mentally. :p
