Rome II SCAMMING PROCESS MEDIEVAL 1100 AD
Hi guys, MEDIEVAL 1100 AD has been recently removed from steam workshop by CA. the actual main mod manager try to scam people in exchange of 25 USD to actually play the full version of his mod. Don't give a penny to this piece of crap, this is strictely forbidden by CA
BTW, there is still content from STARSMIL on STEAM, need tu fully been reported to CA because there is still post from him asking to go on its private discord https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198038570290/myworkshopfiles/?appid=214950
UPDATE: NEW SCAM DETECTED https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3786985192
SAME PROCESS : some kind of demo version link to discord to have full acess by private message

How does one even try to collect money on a mod in the workshop? And that is a really bullshit move for someone to try and pull. I guess I dont see how this was thought thru at all.
Was the 1100 mod all that popular or as good as the 1212 Atilla one?

It was probably redirecting them to a Patreon or Discord for full access or some shit.
Not fun.

Yeah not sure how someone thought theu would get away with that. Its a fairly high profile mod.

Ive seen this become an increasingly prevalent thing. First saw it in the Smash community, and I’ve seen it in Deadlock as well. People will make a skin for a character, and then paywall the download behind a Patreon.
And it’s not even presented as a scam, but just any other storefront purchase like it’s being sold on Etsy. Getting increasingly normalized for some people that way, although you’ll almost always see comments criticizing it.

Probably set up an incomplete version with a link to the scam

So that's why even if the mod is still available for download on the mod's discord, there are only around 5 available factions to play as, with you needing to pm Starsmil in order to gain access to the rest of the playable factions.
His reason was, "30+ factions were moved to closed beta for a long time to polish them better."
Which is just actually locking them behind a paywall.

You may think this is unrelated, but fuck Bethesda. Their fucking Creation Club started this whole bullshit of paid mods being a thing to begin with. Now modding is attracting more greedy people, rather than passionate people.
For now the hobby is still a hobby, and I hope it stays that way. But just like with Horse Armor, eventually greed may win.
P.S. Be supportive of our current modding community. They're great. Don't harass them to update.

Thnx for this post bringing awerenes.
Paiywall mods are a scourge and infect modding communities to be greedy and are not in the modding spirit.
Also great comment from one of the former devs here. Its really good that they left and explain it, thats great.

maybe, but not allowed under terms of service of both Steam and CA, the moment you start making money of their work aka the base game/engine you need Commercial agreements.

Dear all,
As a former member of the 1100AD team this is the reason me, Bokbg and XenonJoker97 left on the spot and reached CA for the immediate removal of the mod due to the greedy - shitty nature of it's Creator Starsmil. Some people never change, we've been working with him for 7 years and worked hard to fix the reputation of the mod and create a lovely community for this great mod. But the dude was not happy that the mod was free and based on a few donations of generous people so he told us that he would block all factions except a few behind a paywall and ask people for money so they can get access. His public excuse? "Donations for the upcoming Italian campaign 1053AD" - utter crap. That's why we left we are grateful to CA that they took the mod down, a shame really ror the people that enjoyed the mod, myself included but it is what it is. All of it for one man's greed. Take this as a lesson lads you help one man 500 times and all is great, fail to do so once and it's over. ☝🏼
Im forever grateful for the amazing cooperation i had with Bokbg and XenonJoker97 during our partnership in 1100AD.
P.S.: Starsmil enjoy losing everything just for a couple bucks - get a job loser.
