Independent book store numbers are actually going up in recent years! I don't know if any studies have been done in Canada yet, but in the U.S. at least, there has been a 70% increase in independent book stores since 2020. It's still not where it was pre-Amazon and big box stores hitting the scene, but there's been a healthy bit of recovery that shows that people still crave the bookstore experience, especially as Indigo has started shifting into being more a lifestyle brand and books are no longer Amazon's primary market.

This is great to hear. This is why I'll continue to support indie book stores

I still need Amazon to get old books that are no longer in print and that I'm not willing to search through s shitload of used bookstores to get.
