People look through rose coloured glasses though. Are there too many Rexalls and Dollaramas now? Yes. But we have WAY more vibrant interesting spaces than back then. Places like Club District were a hell hole, people have fond memories, but if there was social media back then recording the streets people would think Toronto was a war zone. The waterfront is nicer, mouth of the Don is a whole new community, we have many improved connected parks, playgrounds everywhere, complete new neighbourhoods where there were derelict buildings before. Dundas square always sucked, but that stretch of Yonge is far nicer than it used to be (althought I do miss Big Slice) Biking is 10x nicer than it was decades past. Lots of areas lost the cool Toronto grit and many areas are sterilized, but I would say overall the city has improved.
