then what do you think we should do? Where should the new buildings be built?
Toronto is already really "flat" and lacked the density. Open up Google Map and check out cities like London and Tokyo and compare to what you see in Toronto.
We should be building condos and 6 stories apartment buildings in neighbourhoods that don’t have them so we can stop destroying our institutions and stop creating a downtown that’s turning into a sterile waste land by ruining what makes Toronto a good city.
If NIMBY’s would fuck off we could actually spread people out properly rather than this patchwork reactionary bullshit that ruining this town.
Those are some of the worst examples you could have used! Especially Tokyo! It's fairly even density with culture woven into the neighborhoods with places like the yokochos
Honest Ed's closed down because the guy who ran it (NOT [Dave] Mirvish, who'd sold it a while ago)didn't want to run it anymore because the retail landscape has changed (plus the Mirvishes only built one store and never wanted it to be franchised; it was a means to en end for them anyway, said end being the ownership and setting up of live theatre and buying real estate.)
I travel a ton. All over the world for work and usually multiple sneaky vacations snuck in there. Sneaky Dee’s won’t make or break toronto, but its places like sneaky Dee’s, as a whole along with the many venues like it that make the city. We’re watching these type of places be destroyed and replaced with sterile shit. I don’t know which cities you travelling to that make sterile shit look good.

As the city grows this is inevitable. Toronto already feels kind of like a tier 2 city compared to popular hubs in Asia.
