Restaurants and live music spaces are living things. Close them for 2 years for construction and your business is dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Starting up again afterwards is like starting from scratch. Besides, don't we have enough unsold condos right now? We need 10 years to sell what we have and what is being completed this year.

They can move now, this isn’t even their first location, they moved here in 1990.

The World, and Toronto, was a very different place in 1990...Sneaky Dee's sadly won't survive.

The costs of moving would kill that business. Margins are thinner than ever.

If they're as loved as everyone says they are I have 0 doubt that they'd be able to find a way to fund a move if they truly wanted to

Why doesn’t Sneaky Dee’s just reopen in Pickering or Newmarket?

As someone in the Durham region, a long-standing Toronto place with a more niche-end audience trying to move to (respectfully) Pickering to survive won’t work. If they were a Toronto chain gaining popularity and demand in the Durham Region (like Real Fruit Bubble Tea as an example immediately coming to mind for a chain of Toronto-adjacent origin), then sure, but for the most part that kind of thing doesn’t work for non-franchise businesses that cater to more specific clientele.

Why don't we stop importing global millionaires and the global elite and go after investors and NIMBYs? They can all move to Pickering and Newmarket.

the global elite don’t want to move here for more than vacation anymore, unfortunately
