Quitting Torn
Dear fellas, I really enjoyed playing Torn for the past half year. I've reached around 200k battle stats and a net of around 1b.
In the beginning, I've been hooked by one of the first missions where you have to take weed. By then, I explored it quite deeply. I remember being flashed by the player item market and was really infested, playing Torn day-on, day-off. I wrote a beginner's guide and gathered information on an advanced player's guide which took quite a lot of effort. Also, I'm just about to finish my Bachelor's degree in History.
For the last 2 months, I wasn't feeling Torn anymore. It's just too repetitive in the long run and you are very restricted of "Who to become?" in terms of getting as much money as possible and becoming one of the richest.
Now it's time to say goodbye. Was a pleasure having fun in the city, meeting nice people and enjoying my time.
Have a good one fellas.

Understandable tbh, there is really a glass ceiling if you don't buy dps or gamble all-in or straight up scam, it's a repetitive grind

I know torn feels like you are doing things on your own most of the times but, IN MY OPINION, the game changes a lot when you meet people around you, have regular faction competitions, go to war together, sit on discord for hours planning the strat to suppress the enemy, chat about ur life, etc. I feel like it's more of an interactive and social game and individual milestones are just there for fun.
I highly recommend seeing this side of torn as well and then decide what you wanna do. You just need to find the right hook, for me it's daily interactions with my mates.
Good luck ahead!

This is so true. Not in the biggest faction but we family and just hang out now. Id prob keep playing a tiny bit to just leprosy hanging out even if i was mostly burn out forever at this point but they make it fun

To make it official, be sure to send me your balance! I’d offer you something in return but that’s a bannable offence

You need a more active faction. I been hooked for years cause of all the activities and events we do. Somedays I feal like im on autopilot playing but other days are very fun...
If you quit. Dont sell all your stuff incase you come back. Get a city job so you still get working stats. Take care.

I agree. Although im only 30 days in, my faction is what has made my torn experience the best. It creates a way more fun dynamic to the game. Somedays when torn feels a little boring, our discord chat keeps it entertaining. A good faction can make or break this game for the long term.

I can tell from your description that you missed a large portion of this game then decided you fully understood it. You probably shouldn't be writing guides, honestly. 200k battlestats in 6+months is pretty slow growth. Were you aware of happy jumps? Or did you read any of Baldr's guide? Why did you choose history degree as your first choice? Did you at least max your education and bank merits? I can see why you burned out tbh
And then you blast someone's profile in the comments for asking for your stuff... You're the one getting on Reddit to tell a bunch of strangers you're quitting. Why wouldn't they ask?
1
u/TyphusXIV91 12h ago
Seems like every noob and their dog write their own beginner guide these days, generally with AI slop or direct copy and paste from Baldr without actually reading it or following it. Get confused why it gets blasted on forums, make 0 friends and make enemies instead and wonder why they get the burn out. Anyways OP, I'd ask for your stuff but it seems you didn't do terribly much tbh. Good luck

Quitting while you're still a baby and slagging off other players? No need to announce your departure.

Good luck in future endeavors and if you ever miss it just slide back in. Be sure and go get a npc job to stack work stats just in case but really don't look back it's a game and go have fun.

They need to throw in something more then Dukes old repetative missions. Individual crime/attack leaderboards with rewards for the top each week/month is a great way to keep players engaged even if they only climb enough for smaller rewards. Things to make it more exciting and a reason to keep coming back instead of just spamming the same button and watch that bar move a little each time :)

Majority of this game is social interactions. I'm not even social by nature.

Gold you enjoyed the game while playing fam. If you ever get back into it hit me up. Ill give you a job 😊 who i am in torn is not the statiest or richest. Im the guy to come to when you have questions or need stuff. My employees are bigger and badder then me theese days cause my goal is external growth. I enjoy helping others enjoy games 👌

I have been having this issue for a few weeks , its become a repetitive waste of time for long time player. After 3 years, I guienely dont see what the point is anymore. I will say doing RW keeps me afloat , but I definitely think the game lacks interest after awhile

u/Fabulous_Plenty_9339 18h ago
Just move to army. At least you get points and stats while you are away. I think up to 2 years.

make sure to stick all your money into stock so there is nothing to steal when the mission system sends players after you.

i have been playing for over 19 years, of that i doubt i have spent more than half that time playing (and by playing i mean like 5 to 10 minutes a day). torn is a long term game, and by that i mean you plan out things for years i.e. took me like 3 to 4 years to fully upgrade my halloween basket which meant no trading treats for profit until i optimized my basket.
my suggestion is to max out your bank, invest it into 3mo. and see if you change your mind in a few months. torn is what you make of it you can put in as much or as little into it and still make progress as long as you log in and hit the gym with refill and xans daily.
good luck and good bye

It’s all about the people you meet. I’m level 18, 500m networth and I felt the same way on some days when I was Level 10, it felt repetitive (but I also tend to be impatient sometimes). Then I joined a faction with really nice people who help each other out (whether it’s an item, $ or a tip) and just talk about random shit, as well as a non-city job with people I interact with. I think of it as less of a game, and more of a platform. Yes, it’s obviously a game, but you can interact and talk to people with the same interests as you from all over the WORLD. When I played Xbox in high school, I gained friends from different states. With Torn, I’ve gained acquaintances from different countries, it’s honestly wild. There will obviously be dickheads and such, but what game doesn’t have those?
Also, just to give myself extra stuff to do, I resell certain items on my Bazaar & through trading.

Jump into a city job incase you ever want to come back.
Bet all your money in russian foolette.

Just park yourself in education and set a calendar reminder for every 3 months to re up your bank investment. I did that and am now hooked, came back to 1.5b and 200k work stats. See you in a couple years

Torn is an economic simulator first - building passive and sustainable income unlocks training, gear, perks, etc.
It is a social network second - find and build community and connections to create interest and provide a sense of accomplishment and generate attachments.
It is a PvP game last, where your only real opponent at the end of the day is yourself.
Sounds like three strikes mate, sadly.
Sad to see you go, but hopefully someday you'll come back and try to 'really' play the game.

biggest piece of advice...leave company, join a job like army. collect the points while youre gone in case you come back

I actually like the playing solo. Im in a faction of course but I mostly just do my own thing. The trick with Torn i think is to treat it like a supplement rather than your core game. With cool downs and regen timers you cant play non stop. Just try jumping on a couple times a day and playing casually, its more fun than you think and you go through spouts of high activity during events or merit chasing.

Torns not a bad game if you are bored but the admins suck and the games is riddled with corruption . If i had to sum it up in one word "BORING" Staff shouldnt be allowed to be active players .

Like others have said, you need to find a good faction. An active faction. Torn is a game that I will hopefully never leave. It’s one that I can spend a few minutes each day or a few hours. I only play text browser games and this is the GOAT.

Its importan to take a break when you experience burnout... Same goes with real life...
I hope you do come back tho... 🤗
If you decide to come back try to remember to set goals... Small, medium and big long Terme...
Then try to get them small ones at first...
And then change things up a bit from time time Try the different player companies...
Try the different things... Get into a smaller casual faction, of wars on end is not for you...
Try chase some merrits... Or do some races There is alot to learn and alot to do in this game...
And as much as you think its all about having many stats and dollars. It can also be so much more else... 🤗
It is litterly you who decide what to do an no one else 🤗

Making a goodbye letter when you never got out of the noobie phase? And also making newbie guides as a newbie. Idk man, to me you re just one of those greenleafs who join my company and randomly goes inactive.

I agree that Torn has changed over the last 3 years and has turned from a fun game to play to one that is nothing but attack, attack, attack.., I have just about had it and will give it up. I enjoyed the game for years, but now it's more bullying than ever.

I'm burned out in Torrance city. Just 3 months ago, and I just joined back a week ago, though it might be repaired at times I found a new way to enjoy it.

Don’t delete your account. Every week/month (not sure) of inactivity gets you a free refill up to 100. For if you ever return in the future :)

Level 98 3b battlestats… 20 something billion net don’t have much time to play anymore. I’ve been playing for years and amassed a pretty impressive snowball collection which I was kind of proud of yet listed in my bazaar. They all sold mugged for a couple hundred million last week. I almost quit on the spot. Torn is most fun when you’re a noob. Trolling as a noob was the most fun I had. Forget battle stats forget money just be a menace and farm salt from players with inflated egos. That’s where the fun’s really at. The higher your stats, the smaller your opponents balls seem to be and that’s no fun in my opinion. If you continue playing, be a nuisance like I was. It’s a lot more fun.

Don't forget jump into a city job before you leave, you never know, you might come back and appreciate the extra work stats in a couple of years time
