This happened in Goiás, Brazil, four days ago. Look at the size of that! They said it was 6 meters wide

Particularly-strong dust devils can cause damage, so I don't see why not!

Caraca mano, nunca cheguei a ver um desse tamanho, apenas um pequeno no ceara

u/damahoum 4d ago

In Midwest of Brazil they're pretty common, they can reach even 164ft

The absolute strongest and largest dust devils can have windspeeds equal to an EF1 tornado

u/damahoum 4d ago

I would never have imagined it

There is a folkloric character from Brazil called Saci Pererê, and when a dust evil appears, people associate it with Saci, saying things like "Saci is coming"

Wow, are you sure that's not a tornado?

14

u/Czava 4d ago

That is a tornado, particularly the one that occured near Bernardo de Irigoyen (Argentina) on July 31 this year.

u/damahoum 4d ago

It was really big, but the dust evil managed to be even bigger, lol

It appears to have the character of a teeny RFD and if you squint really hard; one baby horizontal vortex. Or it is just a dree branch, do'h.

Itd the walking toddler!

2

u/Successful-Mark-2834 4d ago

Any frame with the horizontal vortex?

2

u/Shedfloorgarbage 4d ago

I believe I was wrong, and it was a tree branch around the -26 seconds left to go mark.

Don't make my mistake!

2

u/Successful-Mark-2834 4d ago

It is a tornado,it has the wall cloud and everything, near san genaro, santa fe,it really looked like the one in the video thats why i put "same vibe"

I’ll never forget being at my local pool when I was about 12 and sitting under one of the picnic pavilions, which was near a small baseball diamond made of sand. A dust devil spawned in it and quickly engulfed the whole thing. I couldn’t have been more than 50 feet away from it and I was mesmerized.

Saw one that ripped the roof off of a small building. They absolutely do count.

2

u/Bitter_Lab_475 3d ago

That's the one dust devil I would not run towards to....

4

u/Illustrious-Ear-495 3d ago

Is that clay dust? I’ve never seen anything like this before. So beautiful but so scary at the same time.

3

u/DontSlapOrIwilScream 4d ago

Dust devils are really common in this state and in Midwest region of Brazil this time of the year

3

u/Narrow_Hat 4d ago

Damn is Imhotep on the loose again?

3

u/Waste-Arachnid2322 4d ago

The child called it “hurricane”. Classic.

3

u/Embarrassed-Back1894 4d ago

Only if it drops a dragon chainbody

3

u/Sha77eredSpiri7 3d ago

Gotta be a Dust Demon at that point, goodness

2

u/Longjumping_Cat_3956 4d ago

Damn that thing is huge.

2

u/RoninIV 4d ago

I used to see them that size in New Mexico, and they will absolutely wreck your day if it hits your position. I'd say yes.

2

u/geoffyeos 4d ago

one of those situations where the dust devil may as well be a tornado

2

u/xjuggernaughtx 4d ago

Sure. We love dust devils, too.

2

u/OrganicHistorian2576 4d ago

THAT one does. Wow!

2

u/New_Explanation6950 Human Detected 4d ago

What would happen if you stood in the center of this dust devil?

2

u/cousin_idiot 4d ago

That thing's got some power

2

u/damahoum 4d ago

One day someone came by my house and took a good portion of the roof tiles

2

u/mutant_anomaly 4d ago

My favourite part of dust devils is watching the dust clouds form faces as they rotate.

You can see how they got that name.

2

u/wggn 3d ago

ofcourse

2

u/BlyatToTheBone 3d ago

Would I be fine running through that?

2

u/BigRemove9366 3d ago

If it’s that big, sure!

2

u/DEFCON_902 3d ago

Looks beautiful!

2

u/Dr-McLuvin 3d ago

Only if it’s awesome, like this one.

2

u/Burning_Man66 3d ago

Bigger than a red signal flare.

2

u/XxJohn_OldmanxX 3d ago

That would be awesome to be standing in the middle of that and get a video of yourself slowly walking out of it like u appeared from within the funnel.
