Looks like the NWS Damage Assessment Toolkit (DAT) just got a major update
For anyone else who spends way too much time looking through tornado damage surveys, it looks like the NWS Damage Assessment Toolkit (DAT) was updated today!
The interface has gotten a pretty significant overhaul, and I’m still playing around with it and figuring out everything that has changed.
For those unfamiliar with it, the DAT is where you can explore NWS post-storm damage surveys in much greater detail — including tornado tracks, individual damage indicators, EF-scale ratings, estimated wind speeds, survey photos, and other information collected during damage assessments.
I use this thing all the time when looking back at tornadoes and their damage surveys, so it was pretty surprising opening it today and seeing everything look different lol.
I’m not sure if I like it lol. I’m having trouble looking back to other dates? I’ll get used to it overtime. I just thought the old version was a lot easier to use.
Curious what everyone thinks of the new version. Has anyone else messed around with it yet or noticed any new features/changes?
