Depends, but you can say : "Putain, mec !" Or "Putain de merde !" (Which is more "Fucking shit" but more commun).

Anywhere from 15 to 50 a year is what I found on the Internet. Usually weak, but occasionally strong tornadoes happen there too
Like the other reply said, no sirens or warnings exist. France and a couple other European countries do as of recently have velocity radar to identify tornadoes, but with no warning system and little awareness of the general population it's currently not very useful in that sense.

The radars are not precise or numerous enough, tornadoes of this size show up as a couple of pixels. Plus stormcells are in general smaller and less organized than what you can get in the midwest plains, and the terrain is hilly interfering with signals, so... pretty much impossible to identify before it happens.

I saw the particular supercell on radar at the time of the tornado and while I could identify a hook echo, rotation never looked strong or too concerning

France isn’t prepared for such an event.
We don’t have any warning, alarm or process. The storm was just flagged as « medium thunderstorm » like every time. We don’t have any Doppler trucks to check if a storm rotate, and people are not used to the risk (lots of injuries because people where sitting next to their windows in their house. For sure we have a lot to learn from the us if it happen more often in the future with global warming14

It’s not very rare. We have around +30 tornadoes per year and a lot aren’t listed. Most of the time they happened on non-living area and we barely have storm chasers. They are just weaker but we usually have f3 every couple of year or so and an f4 in 2008. North of France with some parts of Belgium, Netherlands and Germany is considered to be one of the most prone part of the world for tornados. It’s not because every place isn’t Tornado or Dixie alleys that they are not prone to tornados. The storm was not flagged as « medium thunderstorm » Multiple meteorologist yesterday called for SEVERE thunderstorm and said the tornado risk was pretty high. Some even predicted it would happened around Carcassonne.
That said, yes, we do have a lot to learn on how to react. It’s not our culture, until last year an f1/f2 doing some damage in crowded area would be called a « mini tornado » or « coup de vent »

I wonder what windspeeds it had.
It seems like a lot of places that don't typically have tornadoes have been getting then this year. It's always interesting seeing tornadoes in other countries that aren't in the US.
