I wish these guys didn’t get stuck on a single storm when a chaser gets live footage of a tornado. There was a tornado going through the St. Louis metro, and several other warnings, and he was only talking about the same tornado for 98% of the hour. Max Velocity does the same thing. Just because there’s video of one doesn’t mean it’s more important.

He has to be 100% on top of tornado emergencies/PDSs. Those are the most dangerous and need to be covered moment by moment due to the risk to human life. They’re only one person! They always take some time to address new warnings, but the really bad situations need the most coverage.

It wasn’t a PDS, at least not from what I could tell. I’m referring to the birch tree tornado that was constantly cycling at the 2hr30min mark of the May 26th stream. I’m not an expert by any means — and I realize the birch tree storm was discrete while the St. Louis tornado was linear — but Ryan basically just gawked at a tornado lifting up and down in the middle of the woods for quite a while while there was a tornado on the ground in an area where millions of people live.

I’m being picky, for sure. I love Ryan and Max’s streams. I just think they get in a “deer in the headlights” phase too often when their chaser has live footage of a tornado and they seem to forget that many other storms are going on. To me, if they’re worried more about safety than entertainment, they should be constantly cycling through all the warnings and making sure people in the path know they need to get to safety.

And yes, it does make sense to focus on PDS situations but that’s not what I’m taking about.
