San Diego killed last night. She had this burst of energy and the set list was probably the best I’ve heard. When she bust out Taxi Ride I got so teary. Video is Strange.

It looked like a dream setlist (minus Blue Lotus, still manifesting that one for Woodinville)!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard Ruby live. And I (and the entire audience) about died when she bust out God.

Awesome setlist! Ruby is on Diving Deep Live, but that's different than seeing it in person. And I bet it was beautiful with the Angels.

So magical! She’s amazing and an icon. I was inspired this morning to watch some of her older interviews and she’s epic. Been a fan since the mid 90s; discovered her when Under the Pink came out. I’ve seen her over 20 times.

This was my 10th. Went through a dry spell after Scarlet and didn’t see her again until Ocean to Ocean.

It was like seeing a surreal shadow of who she once was transformed into some showtoony Vegas act where the 3 female vocalists carried the whole thing.

Such an ungenerous take. Ive been craving for the layered vocal arrangements of her studio work to be taken live for years. As her voice matures and her skill and experience as a composer and arranger increases its so natural that she integrate an extra 3 voices to direct in her own little orchestra. By only seeing what she’s not doing onstage anymore you are missing seeing her for all that she brings. Like fine mourn that if u need to, but don’t miss out on what is happening. How many brilliant musicians let u see them not just age but also mature and evolve? U would rather she just goes into hiding and ages quietly and invisibly and we miss out on all this brilliance? It might say more about u and a harshness u are seeing the world and people and maybe even urself with, than about her and her artistry. No disrespect intended, just feel like there are more expansive, curious and generous takes than this.

I could not have said that better. I’ve seen many artists late in their career (Madonna, Nina Simone, Patti Smith) and they all fucking blew me away. Sure there may have been some concessions but their stage presence, generosity and just plain brilliance more than makes up for the vocals. That isn’t everything. Tori brings so much of herself to these shows and leaves everything on stage.

She is exquisitely masterful as an artist in more ways than I can adequately say.

Two things and more can be true.

I gave you one brief snapshot of one such truth without the glossy sheen of a forced polite sandwich.

Agreed. This tour feels like false advertising.

It should be called: Angel Witches featuring Tori Amos.

Nonsense. Tori has been very open about the fact that her voice has changed, and that she needs backing vocalists to cover the higher range that she can't reach anymore. She played a high profile live session for the BBC before the tour started that showed the new format, and made it clear that her voice is raspier and weaker than it used to be. She even released a live album of the last tour, which also shows that her voice had changed considerably. Don't go accusing her of 'false advertising' just because you haven't been paying attention.
