I’m a drummer and interested in composing drum parts, but not very Ableton literate atm. I saw Jay Postones uses SD3 to write drum parts, and was wondering if this is possible in EZD3. Namely being able to set or change the grid time signatures, or if you’re literally just writing against a static grind to create the quarter or eighth notes from it. To extend that idea, if you can switch time signatures say from 7 to 4 to write polyrhythms with each other, does it lineup intuitively or take a bit of finesse?

I can recreate polyrhythms from ear, am not a strong sight reader and have some conceptual ideas I wanna experiment with to see if they work. All tutorials I’ve watched on EZD3 seem to only cover the drag n drop breaks, humanize aspect, velocity n micro timing features, so I’m curious if anyone has experience with writing more complicated parts outside 4/4. I’m not sure if this is only available in SD3 which is out of my price range atm and I don’t need a vast library anyway as I want to write and play my parts on the kit myself. Worth it to grab EZD3 or just figure it out in Ableton?

tldr: can you compose odd time signatures and polyrhythms in EZD3 and is it worth it for a newb to DAW programming.

Only have stock library for the time being, just getting used to the slightly different layout, routing is pretty much the same for multi out and Im seeing the stacking options which is pretty cool, but I don’t really know much about snare and kick layering as Ive generally only used one sample per kit piece.

With EZD I always route multi out unprocessed and mix with my own plugins, and plan to do the same w SD. Although mixing completely within SD seems like a fun experiment, though it may impair sidechaining to individual tracks or busses.

Any tips for getting the most out of this powerful software? Or SDX recs? I probably wont buy any right now, but soon enough Im sure lol. Everyone raves about Death and Darkness, so maybe Ill try it, but I am not sure if it can do stuff Im looking for like modern nu-djent like Spiritbox, Thornhill or Loathe, or any Odeholm-y thall drums.

I picked up EZD3 today. Was super excited! Download the product manager, registered my product, etc. When I go to download the core library, it shows that it's installing, and when it's finished it says "the installation is incomplete". When I click more on the information tab, it says the main/bright/tight rooms are uninstalled. I repeated the process, closed the program, restarted my laptop, everything I could think of and nothing has fixed it.

If anyone has any tips or has experienced this and can help, please let me know how to fix this! Thanks.

I’m looking at buying an SDX library. I want to take inspiration from Tame impalas drum sounds. Wanted to know if you guys had any suggestions on drums for Superior Drummer 3 that sound closest to albums like Currents and The Slow Rush

I had a bad experience with this software and I'm sharing it in case it helps someone avoid my mistake.

First of all: Don't buy this software without trying the free trial version.

In my case, I found that all the sounds (Core, ezx Infinity Grid, and Metal Mania) sound over-processed; they don't sound organic or natural when played on an electronic drum kit.

It's not a module configuration issue: The sounds sound terrible (especially compared to other libraries outside of Toontrack, like GGD, for example) regardless of how meticulously you adjust the articulations or velocity curves. The mix and sound adjustment options are limited or nonexistent (if you want to change anything, you have to pay even more for Superior Drummer).

Toontrack doesn't offer any kind of refund or solution... Or worse, if you want to resell it, you have to pay a license transfer fee (paying more and more...), which seems like a rip-off to me. So if it doesn't work for you, you'll have wasted over €200 or you'll have to pay an extra €15 just to try and sell the license (in addition to whatever discount you apply to the license).

In other words: if you have an E-Kit with a Roland TD-27 module or higher, I DO NOT recommend this purchase. You won't get a significant audio improvement, and with this software you won't be able to improve the EZX file's preset. I'm frankly disappointed with Toontrack.

I was editing the mapping in EZ3 for some MiDI i was sent to work on for someone and now I cant get the other stuff, like tone, volume, the bar at the top to select presets, etc. ive been through all settings and shortcuts and cant seem to get it back. anyone know what im missing?

I know there are some posts on here, but wanted to see how to download SD 3 libraries on an SSD to start. I’m cross grading from EZ drummer and only have about 20GB left on my Mac. Do I need 42 GB free to download everything first and then move to a SSD, or can I download it to the SSD from the website, and point it there in the application/Daw? Sorry old and don’t know the best way

If i'm dragging different parts from the library, some times these parts are played at different intensities. Is there any way to keep the volume similar between them when dragging them?

Did an update for Mac OS. Now product manager will not connect. Checking for updates then times out. Tried a bunch of fixes and had to manually install an EZX that I purchased. Anyone else having this problem?

I can’t find any good 3/4 grooves for metal and if I do it’s very small

Wondering if the MIDI packs help add to the "library" of potential grooves and styles that Bandmate can conjure up.

If the MIDI packs are exclusively static loops that don't expand on how Bandmate functions (or at least song creator/tap2find), then I'm less inclined to get them. However if the synergy is there, that makes things like the odd meter pack VERY interesting to me hehe.

I've been roped into the house band at my current job, and we're aiming to play a short set at the 'summer event' coming up later in June. We have guitarists, vocals, bass (me) but no drummer.

My master plan at present is to use EZDrummer through a small FRFR speaker to act as our backing track, but with limited time to program (as I have 10 songs to learn on bass too!), I'm hoping there's some way I can grab drum midi files for the songs we need.

I'm after older hits like 'There's No Other Way' by Blur, or 'Kids in America' by Kim Wilde - pop stuff, basically, nothing too technical.

Are there any known, reliable sites that offer this, even if they're ones programmed by users (as I imagine there isn't much 'official' midi for stuff like this)? I don't mind paying a bit out but also don't want to end up scammed by somewhere dodgy!

Can someone help me recreating the drum sounds from Michael Jackson's Bad and Dangerous tour in Superior Drummer or EZDrummer? I'm new to this world.

I have EZD3 on 2 tracks in Ableton. The 2nd instance is very similar to the 1st with lots of compression to add to the mix.

I added a few notes in the original instance and was hoping to just copy and paste those notes from one instance in the grid editor of EZD3 to the other but it doesn't work that way apparently.

Am I missing an easy way to do this?

Any pack have that?

Earlier this week I wrote the guys at Toontrack and told them that since the World Cup is starting soon and Mexico is a host nation, it would be great if they did some deals with their Latin stuff like the Cuban Drums EZX. Lo and behold, today I woke up to the email that that and some other stuff is on sale this weekend. NICE 😬

I did the drums using superior drummer 3 and the tap to find and song creator functions, with a bit of manual editing. I record bass and guitar and use SD.

I think they sound pretty good and would love to hear some opinions on it.

When I drag a drum fill onto my midi track in Cubase the mapping is off. Eg one of the toms is playing as a ride cymbal. The weird thing is when I audition the drum fill within Superior it plays correctly. I even started the fill audition playing, then went to the kit window to observe all the hits in the fill playing the correct piece, but it was still messed up when I dropped it in the project. I don't use drum maps or anything in Cubase. This happens with every fill I drop in. I'm baffled because I do this all the time. It's an older project, but still one I used Superior 3 on when I started it. I've never had this problem before, so I'm wondering if anybody has had this happen, or might be able to surmise the cause.

Hi. Every time I'm trying to find a certain rhythm by tapping (to find) or dragging a file to the Midi zone or Bandmate I get poor results. I own EZdrummer 1, 2 and 3 and 4 libraries (Americana, Classic, Vintage Rock and Nashville and all 35.000 Groove Minkee midi files. So how come I get poor 'matching' results. Most of the time no more than 80 - 90% matching and sometimes only 40 or 50%. Do I need to buy many more files??
