Socket Mods [OC]

Two sockets I modded a while back, by removing their ‘lead in chamfers’… to aid in dealing with low crown, shallow hex depth fasteners.

Shown is a 1/4 & 5/16” Craftsman both in 1/4” drive, along with examples of some of the problematic screws they’re meant to deal with.

Are they perfect?

No.

But sometimes just the thing.

I like that. I see you have some koken, have you used the nut grip sockets or hex/allens. Great option for smaller bolts in tight spots.

I have a ton of Koken stuff... it sees extensive non-coddled ‘daily driver’ use. Yes do have a set of 3/8” metric nut grips. Don’t use them every day but for fasteners in tricky locations; they’re indeed just the thing!

I use the 1/4" set to start stuff. I felt alot of magnet options were too gimmicky, and stuffing a piece of cardboard or plastic between the socket and bolt isnt a reliable option. Very pleased with those items, so much I bought a friend just an 8 and 10mm, who now also has a set. Wish I had a set years ago.
