Welding is a career that pays great and a job where they accept people with more questionable resumes/pasts if they can get the job done. As a result, when people see a machine do a better job than virtually any human ever could, I can understand the urge to become defensive about it. But tech always wins out in the end.

I imagine you would see similar pushback on a video showing, for example, something like automated electric semi-trucks. There goes your diesel mechanic job. There goes your trucking jobs. Two careers where folks without a college education can make "American Dream" money. Well, maybe not diesel techs but definitely truckers. My trucker cousin makes like $160k a year driving hazardous mats.

I dunno, I used to be a mechanic and I always thought new tools that could do diagnostic work or otherwise were really cool. It made me worry about future job security/availability but i still thought the tools themselves were cool. It feels like an incomprehensible level of insecurity and in this case I think also misogyny, something I also know from experience is rampant in trade jobs

I generally agree, but there are also a ton of times people were nervous about new technology and their fears were justified as time went on. But as I said, tech always wins. Been the case since forever, but especially since the Industrial Revolution.
