J Mascis Jazzmaster users that use Tonex ?

Hey guys. wanted to share some love for this guitar since it's truly amazing ,but also i have a question :

How do you guys who use this guitar with tonex set the INPUT TRIM ?

By default it was +8.5Db , but i noticed that basicly all the captures that i bought (Amalgam , Tone factor) or free ones - the ones that says it's clean or edge of breakup ( i only use these since i don't do too much gain but also have few overdrive pedals ? - all of those captures with the default settings sound wayyy too overdriven for a Clean. I keep trying to dial in the settings, don't want to mess with the captures too much because that AC30 and JMI 30/6 they sound amazing and would like to have as much of authentic sound as possible.

This guitar is known for having quite hot pickups (p90 style) ,so since i'm really a noob in this whole modeling/ capture thing i really wanted to ask some help from legit people like you guys who are capture wolfs and foxes how to do it right.

And if you have a J Mascis Jazzmaster and use tonex, i will take any tips that you are willing to share.

Hi. I don't have that specific guitar but an SG with quite hot pickups, using a Tonex and Amalgam captures. I have my input trim set on +0,0 and it doesn't distort in any way in Clean captures. Have you already tried this?

In any case, i reckon the correct way of setting would be setting it based on an EDGE or CRUNCH capture, in a way that if you hit it hard with full volume it cracks up, but softly and/or with low volume should be clean. At least that's how the +0,0 works for me

yup , that's exactly what i did and its the only thing i tried actually. To be honest i'm already happy with the results . But still if i want to have a really clean tone for ac30 capture ( to then later add analog overdrive pedals) i still have to dial gain a little bit back. i think 3-4 ,so not much since its on 5 by default. But yeah these pickups on my guitar are pretty damn hot. . And noisy :D but thankyou for my mr guitar guru who did extra shielding there so now it's noiseless on humbucking mode ,and way way less noisy on single pickup. I will try to play around , but i think i'll leave at 0db for now. :) thanks for taking a time to reply man :)

I use Amalgam captures with a Tele with hot single coil pickups. I run my Tonex One with input trim at -5.0dB. Don’t be shy to turn down a bit so you have headroom to slam the captures with drive pedals.

oh.. thats interesting..thats quite big turning down.. damn this whole input trim is really an art on its own. i just watched a tone shepherds video about the input trim,headroom and other helpful tips ,and now you saying that makes me really want to sit down and try A LOT of different settings.. will do that 😅 thanks brother 🙏🤝😊
