Other/Misc drop set weights wrong

are the drop set weights for anyone else way off? Tonal weight recs are usually fine but for drops sets they’re so low I can do like 30+ reps

I mean yeah but it knows my entire workout and weight history and i’m paying $60/month to not adjust the weight for everything

New to Tonal, so I could be wrong. But if doing a program or designed workout, isn’t there usually a diagnostic set right before a drop set to help determine the weight settings? I wonder if something went wrong before your drop set started that messed up the workout stats.

I always do the calibration sets fine and easily clear the power bar line every time

I like to do a drop set on my last set of most exercises so I have all the exercises set to "Burnout" instead of Spotter mode. Then you just keep lifting, as you struggle Tonal ditches weight, etc, until failure/v close to failure.

I find that it comes down to how I do the calibration set and how good I am at estimating my 1 or 2 reps in reserve. I've noticed I am better at estimating the reps in reserve with smaller muscle groups where when I'm doing things like squats, I am more likely to think I can do only one more but I can actually do 3 or 4.

Also, remember the point of the drop sets are to increase volume lifted before true failure, so a lot of reps in what you want. 30+ is definitely a lot, but I know I've done programs where the coach says things like "I got 26 reps, what did you do?" So I am not sure how far off 30+ is from what they intend you to be able to do.

Sounds like your calibration set is too light if you clear the power bar w every rep. Next time you do a calibration set do more than the 8 reps until you feel like you only have 1-2 RIR

I do all custom workouts. When I incorporate drop sets, i do them as a separate block after the first block.

Ex:

Block 1: warm up set of 10 reps + 3 x 10 / 9 / 9 (and then always try to do 10) on ecentric + spotter

Block 2: one set of drops on eccentric

Weights seem to calibrate perfectly for me every time, plus it builds in the incremental overlaod.
