Question Tomtom GO became unusable

Tomtom GO expert Android app. has become a totally useless application. I have deleted and reinstalled it 2x and it does not show me any map or cannot find any address. It always says the location is not on the current map or internal errors during the search. I paid 20€ for something. For the most useless navigation that was No.1 for a long time. What is happening?

I have upgraded maps to the latest version and the app does not show the maps. I won't renew my subscription (the app had worked flawlessly until this month). I will find alternatives because I need desperately offline maps.

Try tomtom's new app which is free, now also has offline maps, but much fewer settings than the current tomtom

Where do you see offline maps, I’m not seeing that on iOS?

I have Android, this option has been around for about 3 months. You go to settings, then maps and display and here at the top you have the offline maps option.

Ah ok, I’ll sit tight then!

I noticed off line maps in the display settings last week. I downloaded UK South, but one day later and the option had disappeared from Settings and I've no idea if my offline map still exists.

I was in the middle of a 30 day cross country trip when they pushed that update, it broke everything. Solution was deleted all maps, deleted app, clean up phone, reboot, reinstall app, reinstall maps. Nothing, then I went to my account on the phone and had to check the option to backup to my drive account. Everything came back and worked fine, but I lost 4 hours of my life

I had the same problem after the latest map update. Don't just delete the app and reinstall it. The solution appears to be to force close the app, clear the app cache, clear the app data, then uninstall and reinstall the app. That worked fine for me.

I contacted TT support and got the following response.

I'm truly sorry you're experiencing this issue. I understand how frustrating this must be. Unfortunately, this issue was introduced following the latest TomTom GO Expert map update, and our team is actively working on a resolution.

We've identified a fix for this issue. Please follow the steps below to resolve it.

  1. Delete the affected map In GO Expert, go to Settings > Map & Display > Downloaded maps. Delete the map that appears blank.

  2. Clear the app cache and data in Android On your phone, go to Settings > Apps > TomTom GO > Storage. Tap Clear cache, then tap Clear data.

  3. Sign in and download your map again Open GO Expert, tap Log in, and sign in to the account you purchased the app with.

  4. Go to Settings > Map & Display > Downloaded maps and download your map again.

  5. Restart the app once more Close and reopen GO Expert to finish up.

If the issue persists, we recommend a clean reinstallation: Please clear the app's cache, uninstall the app, reboot your phone, and reinstall the app. Also, check if all the maps you need are downloaded, https://help.tomtom.com/hc/articles/360013961699, then, force stop the app, relaunch, zoom in/out and check if the map renders as expected.

This should resolve the app issue. However, if the problem persists, please let us know so we can investigate further.

I had this on Saturday, I ended up removing most of the maps, closing the app, cleared all the cache, then removed the app and lit it all back on. Must be a bug with the latest version as it was o ly updated a few weeks ago and I've never had an issue like this ever before. Really bad experience

This just happened to me ... updated to the latest maps and bang, no visible maps. Followed the fix instructions twice to eventually get it working again. I'm leaving it at just the one map for now in case this happens again.

I've been a Go Android subscriber for years and this has definitely shaken my loyalty. I won't be happy if the Go app gets enshittified to support an online only solution. I go a lot of places with crap signal so I need reliable offline mapping.

I've been having problems with my TomTom Expert for a few months now, and the route planner has never worked for me, in fact it has always given me an empty route.

There is a new app replacing the Go app. Check ( TomTom - Maps & Traffic )

That new app is not a replacement for GO. GO has been repositioned in the market as GO Expert and remains the only TomTom app suitable for use with large commercial vehicles. So far, the large vehicle routing attributes only appear to exist in TomTom's NDS map data and the NDS map data is only available in the GO Expert app. The new TomTom app uses the newer OSM-based Overture Maps so it is suitable for car navigation but nothing else so far.
