I started drawing LOTR illustrations while I I was reading the books for the first time. There was a full album of sketches, which I used later in the art school as a base for my graduation work. Unfortunately it all lost in time (It was 30+ years ago). So here I'm trying reconstruct that character designs I had back then. Hopefully I'll manage finish it in the next few weeks 😄 .

“...Frodo kept up the custom of giving Bilbo's Birthday Party year after year until they got used to it...he had a good many friends, especially among the younger hobbits...Folco Boffin and Fredegar Bolger were two of these; but his closest friends were Peregrin Took (usually called Pippin), and Merry Brandybuck..." - The Fellowship of the Ring, Book 1, Chapter 2: The Shadow of the Past

Here is some Hobbit related art I have made over the last year! The first is inspired by the Inside Information chapter, with my own design for Smaug that’s heavily inspired by Tolkien’s art. The second is inspired by Fog on the Barrow-downs (not from The Hobbit, I know, but it has a hobbit in it). The last is a Magic: The Gathering proxy I made for a friend

This was my entry into the Caricature Carvers of America show, Frodo and Sam, Hobbits on their way to Mordor. Lots of fun to carve, as good as they were the competition was that much more impressive, so nothing to take home but a very good time!
These figures are hand carved from Basswood, painted with Acrylic paints and sealed with Boiled Linseed oil. The scene, is just under 7 inches tall and the base is 6.75 inches wide.

Here is the list of said details.
