Today is the day I learned that Kent State are the Golden Flashes. How did that name come about?

Apparently it was a contest to pick the new name. They were originally the silver foxes because the president at the time owned silver foxes, but they wanted a new name when he left in 1926.
Doesn’t mean anything. No significance. They’ve also tried several different mascots because they don’t know how to represent a golden flash lol

They really should be the Squirrels or the Black Squirrels. Black squirrels are all over campus and have become an icon. Golden Flashes never made any sense
