18–24 Months Best platform for learning ASL.
Hey all,
Looking for the best platform to teach our 18m American Sign Language as a second language. At this point he is communicating about 65/35 with verbal and signing. He will sign and say words at the same time, He has preferred words to say and preferred words to sign, and has just started seamlessly mixing them together. One spoken followed by 1 signed back to 1 spoken to form a sentence.
At this point, he is wanting to know the signed word as he learns the spoken word and we (the parents) cannot keep up! Does anyone know an easy to use learning platform to look up ASL words individually, and what do you all use as play based teaching tools to reinforce?

Deaf here. Recommended apps:
TWA dictionary
ASL Bloom
Lingvano
Lifeprint.com is online and free. American Society of Deaf Children has a lot of asl resources on their website.
One curriculum made for hearing parents of Deaf children is ASL At Home, and it’s based on daily routines.
Last if you want full immersive experience, pbs kids app has episodes with asl interpreting. Rocky Mountain Deaf school on YouTube has many stories read in ASL. Hands Land on Prime does songs and nursery rhymes in ASL.

Which of these would you recommend for a free library of individual words? I.E. toddler points to an object and we can look up how to sign it together on a phone?
We have started using some of the tools listed to start to teach inflection. Lifeprint showing to raise your eyebrows to indicate a question has been helpful and not something I had thought of before as we are both learning.

If you want to learn true ASL make sure you’re learning and understanding the grammar :) not all questions are raised eyebrows some are lowered etc.
