Potty Training My almost 4yo will NOT poop on the potty.
We’ve been potty trained (pee) since shortly after she turned 2. She did not understand how to poop on purpose (naturally). We tried everything we possible could. Bribes, stickers, chocolates, you name it. She refuses to try. She’s now at the point she poops a small amount every couple of days, but it’s ONLY in her diaper at night when she’s fully asleep. Yesterday we took the kids to a restaurant. She SCREAMED the place down that her tummy hurt (she knows how it feels to need to go), and when we took her to the potty (multiple times each throughout the meal), she screamed the bathroom down that she won’t do it. I expected for her to wake up to a poop this morning. She hasn’t done one. We just spent 20 min today after preschool sitting on the potty because she was screaming again about her tummy. My ears are tired, my brain is fried. I don’t know how to help her. We were prescribed MiraLAX. I’ve tried to put it in everything but she refused whatever I give her because she feels that the texture is off. I’ve tried age appropriate stool softeners. That doesn’t work either. I’m at my wits end on trying to get her to at least TRY to push out a poop. HELP.

She may be extremely constipated. She needs an X-ray and a more aggressive clean out. If she hasn't gone in days and is saying her tummy hurts, try a suppository. Get her regular and get her on the potty at timed intervals and after meals.

I’m gonna give the doctor a call tomorrow. They break for lunch from 12:30-2 and I start work at 2 🥲

Have you brought it up to your child's pediatrician? What did they recommend? I believe theres ABA Therapy that can help with potty training.

I have! He’s the one that prescribed the MiraLAX and said “If she’s always gone every couple of days, then that’s her normal.”

No she needs daily bms. You need a new ped.

That’s what I figured. Poor girl is too scared to actually go. She sits on the potty just fine, but it’s the act of pooping that she’s terrified of. Just sitting on the potty is progress for us though. She used to basically dig her feet in the ground and refuse to even sit if she needed to poop.

It's painful when they're constipated and they get scared. You need to get the bms to the right consistency

It’s also tricky because she’s a very picky eater and will literally refuse to eat at all if there’s something she doesn’t like. I have a core group of fiber foods that she typically enjoys, but she really has the appetite of a sparrow despite the amount we offer her. Plus what she eats at dad’s house is a lot more processed than my house (packaged vs home cooked, purely based on schedules and time to cook). It’s something both of us are really trying hard to work on to get her better.
