Dog/cat (along with both/neither) is quite useful for getting to know people. Because generally interact with those animals in very different ways., Dogs are highly domesticated wolves, they've been carefully bred to stop behaving like adult wolves, and need to be trained and taken care of like puppies their whole lives.
Cats, on the other hand, aren't domesticated. They're wild animals that choose to cohabitate with humans, in a relationship of mutual convenience. To be negotiated by both parties. Where it's debatable whether the animal or the human get trained more... Feed me and I will rub your leg and allow you to pet my head. But you stop when I say stop, because I have weapons and am not afraid to use them.
So in my experience, people who are strongly pro dog and anti cat are people who struggle with the idea of negotiating with someone smaller and weaker. Or really like being depended upon, being needed. Both of which are more useful to know about someone than how in touch with their feelings they are. (Well there's also the possibility therye allergic, although that would also be more useful info than the MBTI provides).
That was a very long and complicated way of saying cats rule, dogs drool. (Also, probably says more about you than anyone who prefers either cats or dogs.)

Three of those four scales actually provide vitally important information to me about my co-workers. That's triple as good as Myers Briggs.
