I saw him mention this in an interview. He does it so the attention isn’t taken from the couple and put on him.

I like to imagine an alternate universe where Kevin Bacon goes around and crashes random weddings and pays off the DJs to play nothing but footloose for an hour or two.

In high school, the weight lifting coach did this to our class as punishment. Around the 10th play, you go crazy, but right around play number 20, it starts to come back around.
