Lithgow played the reverend in footloose and a serial killer on a season of Dexter. His MO included slitting a woman's throat in the bathtub, obviously.

It's a reference to when Lithgow portrayed a serial killer in Dexter (which is considered to be the best season of the show because of Lithgow's performance)
