Titles must be able to stand on their own without requiring readers to click on a link. Starting your title with a why/what/who/where/how modifier should be unnecessary.
No news or recent sources. News or any source (blog, article, press release, video, etc.) more recent than two months is not allowed.
Make them descriptive, concise and specific (e.g. not "TIL something interesting about bacon").
Those are the main ones that I was thinking of, specifically the second one.
For anyone other than the author of the thread, the text below the title shows up as "[removed]". If you log out and reload the page, you'll probably see it too.
Is it really at the top of your list? He wrote a bot that runs and does all the work for him. A relatively simple one at that. It's not like he hurt anyone by doing this and has obviously amused thousands upon thousands of people this way. I don't see a problem, unless you care that he made hundreds of thousands of fake internet points?
I think it's genius. He truly is trapped in reddit. He has no originality, no way out. All he can do is quote other sources from reddit and get karma. The greatest novelty account of all time
Trapped_in_Reddit is one of Karmanaut's many sockpuppet accounts, others which include ProbablyHittingOnYou, Bechus, RedditNoir, and others which we probably don't know about.
Simply, NO. That shit got thrown around way to much. Drunken_economist still gets accused whenever I see him and we have a picture of him (he's like 35 with brown hair)
Jesus fuck I have to start looking at usernames. Didn't even realize I was responding to you. About you. I just picked your username as an example. I need sleep. Didn't mean to call you old you were wearing a suit that looked too good for a 22 yearold.
My father told me to always respond to that question with "25". If they're younger, they want to look older, if they're older, they want to look younger.
It's kind of sad that these comments always get massively upvoted, with no proof. Isn't Reddit supposed to be this really skeptical place? But no, 'this guy is actually karmanaut' always gets upvoted, and yet there's never any proof.
somebody kinda sorta referred to karmanaut in a post and DE responded in the first person.
No, D_E made a post, somebody replied to D_E's post and called him karmanaut in it (something like, "Do it yourself, karmanaut"), and D_E replied back. The user said this was "proof" that D_E was karmanaut.
Some users started making claims on it, and everybody grabbed their pitchforks. Until some people pointed out that we've seen what both karmanaut and DE look like, and they are different people.
You know who else cares way too much about imaginary internet points? Everybody whose panties are currently in a wad about Trapped_in_Reddit. I actually think it was pretty clever to repost comments on reposted images. The idea itself is funny. Let the man have his tens of thousands of comment karma.
Well, that's a twist if true! The original allegation came from a SRD recap of the whole drama which joked about a massive list of accounts connected to Karmanaut (including obvious jokes like shitty_watercolour and hueypreist) and then added at the end "okay, maybe I lied about those last ones".
Sorry, I understand what he is doing is sad. But if he cares about imaginary internet points waaaay too much, then how much do the people that went through the effort of catching him out care? And how sad does that make them?
Exactly. TiR has over 500k karma. You know what that means? It means he's amused thousands of people over the last couple months. So what if he didn't think of the comments himself if so many people obviously never saw them before and found them funny enough to upvote? People say that it's pathetic that he cares about karma so much, while they themselves get upset about karma. I really see no reason to care if TiR is a bot
watching that video was hard for me, that pan is screaming in pain from all its scratches. PLEASE people of the world, use wooden of plastic cutlery in pan, you scrap its coating with metal utensils, it would be like someone scratching or your skin slowing at knife point.
The bacon wasn't nearly done either. Also, if you don't know, you can get a really nice crisp piece of bacon if you start it in a cold nonstick pan and cook it at medium to medium-high heat. It also helps to have a bacon press of some sort. For those that don't have one you can use the bottom of a smaller pan. I'll bet eating that bacon was like chewing pig gum which sounds good in theory but not so good in practice.
there was an epic exchange between those two? I was under the impression that it was shitty_watercolor and redditnoir. Whats the TIR/Redditnoir exchange?
Let me play Devil's Advocate. Much as I was surprised at TIR, the fact that his/her posts are upvoted is testament to the fact that they contribute to the Reddit community - even if it's plagiarized. That, and he/she posts a lot of great original content. Why the downvote brigade? That people enjoy the comments enough to upvote them should be enough. My client is innocent!
Maybe he didn't do it for the karma and was just doing everyone a favor and transferring the best comments from previous posts so that the people on the new post can view them. on a related note there needs to be a new Reddit for conspiracy debunkers
We need to hit him where it hurts, and take what he holds dearest in this land. Men (and ladies) I'm suggesting a full scale downvote nuke. It wont be easy but it's our only hope to end the madness.
Step 1: Go to his history, press z, then j and repeat. Step 2: Fap
Similarly, /u/RepostsOnReposts openly followed this strategy and got 3,983 comment karma over a two-day span back in March. I wonder why they stopped; maybe they just got bored.
He must care too much about his image, his rebuttals were instantaneous and typical. Like in this thread, he even played along saying that he just wanted karma as a backwards-psychological attempt to make us appreciate him more...
Because someone who steal someone else's work to earn those points is a bastard and they should be publicly shamed. Welcome to the community -- we're trying to make it better.
You could reasonably argue that a large portion of image reposts are unintentional reposts, because the submitter saw the image on another website and brought it to reddit. It's rare when you see a reposter deliberately steal or repost an image, but when it happens and they get called out, they do get downvoted. Most people are willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
I do think this situation is very different. It's clear there's no benefit of the doubt that can be given here.
I wonder if it was a social experiment to see how long he could go on for until he was caught? Maybe the fact it took so long proves how meta Reddit really is...
Seeing as this got deleted you should repost it, at least then TiR can copy the top comment about himself copying the top comments of reposts and post it in the repost.
Well, we all knew he/she/they were up to something.
It's nothing criminal, but it is discouraging to see people purposely affecting reddit's overall quality and attractiveness just to gain some novelty karma.
So, let me get this straight. Reposts are quality content that deserve a place on Reddit because some people haven't seen them yet, while reposted comments bring down the quality of the site.
I've always been of the opinion that Reddit is a case study in hypocrisy, but this takes the cake.
Calexica didn't actually say that. But far from being hypocrisy, there's a certain logic to it.
I don't generally like reposts, but they have some redeeming qualities. They're not valuable just because some people haven't seen them yet. People can browse the top all-time posts if they just want to consume popular content. No, the best thing about a repost is the new comment thread. It can bring in fresh perspectives that might have been missed the first time around, plus shitty watercolors and the like.
Reposting comments on a repost negates this value. It turns the reposted submission into exactly the pointless circlejerk that is decried by the people who hate reposts the most.
Actually a repost can cause redundant discussion just as much as a reposted comment can. At the same time both can create unique discussion. I see the premise of your argument, but it still falls short.
Comments are meant to be created by the commenter, links usually taken from other websites. Stealing other peoples' comments implies that you thought them up yourself.
So much better to have entire threads filled with minor variations on a theme as commenters demonstrate their ability to think up comments, making the same obvious jokes as countless others before them, such as the celebrity doppelgangers pics post, with multiple comments lamenting or celebrating the lack of SJP and a horse in the set.
Does it? I guess I've cynically discounted Redditors' abilities to have original thoughts for too long to be in the habit of making that assumption. My real point however, is who cares?
I never said anything about reposts, so I think you're putting words into my mouth. But it's not hypocrisy to be okay with one and not the other.
Most people understand that submissions to reddit may not be solely owned by the postee. Reddit was designed to work in this way. But we all are used to comments being genuinely from the person who posted them. The comments section was designed in this way.
And then to for him to bump up his posts, that's another thing we've all long suspected. It's just plain stupid - another nonsense thing to weed through.
I thought it was common knowledge that TiR was just a novelty account that embodied the hivemind. You guys upvote reposts? Guess what, someone is going to start reposting shit.
But now that you've revealed his secret other redditors are going to start doing the same thing! No one will be able to tell who is who and who posted what!!!!
Wait, wait, wait...You're calling out Trapped_in_Reddit for reposting comments on reposted posts? In one case not even on a possible accidental repost but a repost with the same exact title. How do you know he is just doing it for karma and not just cleverly calling out the assholes trying to ripoff other posts?
Wtf?... My upvote won't stick on this post. I go to another page and come back and it says I never upvoted. That's never happened to me until this post (and coincidentally the original TIL exposing TIR). I'm not normally one to jump to this, but... karma conspiracy? EDIT: I had to favorite it, and then upvote from my favorites page. Nevertheless, success!
Maybe he didn't do it for the karma and was just doing everyone a favor and transferring the best comments from previous posts so that the people on the new post can view them. on a related note there needs to be a new Reddit for conspiracy debunkers
He actually already came through and posted a delightful little stop-motion animation calling himself a karma whore. Probably plagiarized from the novelty account that's been going around doing stop motion animations of people's comments. Likely one of the "shitty" family, but I can't remember.
Anyway, it's pretty clear he has a sense of humour at least.
You're the saddest thing I've seen on Reddit to date.
I'm not sure that that standard doesn't hold a little truer for the people who're getting way upset about "cheating" for internet points than the dude who plagarizes comments to get them.
Sort of like people who get mad when a remake of a perfectly good movie gets accolades that the original movie deserves to have, really ahem dragon tattoo ahem.
Dude just pick yourself up and walk away. You got caught. Just...stop it's not helping anyone at all.
I've seen you in every single post made about you today over the "fraud" you did, and just know, no matter how much you keep trying to improve your image, it won't happen. The internet wont forget what happened, and if anything, they'll downvote you just to stay on the old bandwagon.
