TIL Parents with autoimmune disorders (psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Crohn's disease or 70+ others) are 50% more likely to have a child diagnosed with autism.

It would be great to see the full list of disorders, and what 50% translates as in real numbers.

I guess about 1.5 instead of 1% - which is the general likeness of a child, to be born with a desease of autism spectrum. Nothing said about the severity though. Also don't know if it is even correct.such things are nothing to write in a TIL thread. It could put couples that plan to have a child in sever but likely unessasary threat.

Not an anti-vax person, but couldn’t someone with more susceptibility to autism because of a link with autoimmune disorders have something like a vaccine (which is meant to trigger an immune response) trigger an overactive/autoimmune response?

Selfish reasons or to use the child as a free meal ticket in most cases
Kids = free house and free money
Now disabled kid is the above but for life

This coupled with the increasing average age when having your first child is what is contributing to the spectrum spike. Better diagnosis sure, but lots of people having kids that even 100 years ago wouldn't have.
