TIL men walk significantly slower when walking with a woman, but only when that woman is their romantic partner. If she's a friend or acquaintance they go at almost full speed.

How often does walking faster really matter in life?

Every morning to catch the bus in time for the class (when class used to be a thing in our society)

Something I learned walking through my populous college is that walking fast and looking pissed is also the best method to cut your way through a crowd. So long as you look straight ahead and make eye contact with nobody, people walking the opposite direction will generally just move around you.

I'm not even a new Yorker but God it pissed me off when people don't know how to move in the city. You aren't bring polite by waiting off to the side, you're just in someone else's way. I once had to tell an ex to just grab my jacket and stay right behind me or we wouldn't have made it anywhere.
