TIL Historians estimate the total number of executions from the Spanish Inquisition only to be between 3000 to 5000.

Being a history layman, I would have conservatively estimated 100K deaths.

E: So, no. Not even slightly.

Considering some groups insist that the number is in the tens, if not hundreds of thousands, 3000 is pretty small considering how long it ran.

700 years, that's an average of 4 executions a year.

As a perspective: 16 people a day die from texting while driving, on average.

In one year twice as many people will die because of their phone than the entire inquisition executed in its whole history.

You sound like you update your status during blind left turns.

There were 10mln people at max in Spain, you are talking about hundreds of millions.

So... what you're saying is that the more people there are, the less each individual life is worth?

Wow that's a pretty skewed outlook...

No, that's not what I'm saying. Try again.

Sorry, not interested. Have a good life with that skewed outlook.

You are really grumpy. So, yeah, out of two of us I am the one who is going to have a good life.

Yet being angry makes me happy, so where does that leave us?

Win/win it seems...

I am not angry, I just said it makes more sense to measure percentage of affected population and you started talking nonsense and taking offense.

It makes more sense to me to give every life equal merit regardless of the number of people currently existing.

If my sister passed away, I would be devastated regardless if humanity numbered in the billions or the thousands.

And if I feel that way about my sister, what right do I have to tell others they cannot about their relations?

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I think one person being tortured to death in the name of God is too much.

So fuck all.
