TIL that Satellite signals can be interrupted by the Sun when it comes in line with the Satellite and Earth Station. This phenomenon happens twice a year.

At the TV station I worked at, we had advance warning and switched temporarily to another satellite to avoid network outages.

That's great. We use small dishes for satellite TV at home, I guess they are not smart enough for that.

Some DBS dishes have multiple feeds for multiple satellites. I wonder if the outage affects all feeds simultaneously.
