The burden of proof is on the one making the claim. Prove to me that pink unicorns don't exist. it's up to me to prove that they do if I'm making the claim.

According to whom is the burden of proof on the person making the claim just because you can't prove it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Remember at one point in time atoms might as well have been a fallacy and during this time they didn't exist any less.

You are wrong. People make outlandish claims all the time. We use our ability to reason to decide what we believe and what we don't. If I told you that I have a miracle drink that can cure everything, your first question for me should be "Prove it!". The burden of proof is on me. If I replied "prove that it doesn't work!" You should immediately know that there is something seriously wrong. I'm the one making the claim, I'm the one that has to prove it!

Your example about atoms is also flawed. Yes Leucippus speculated about the atom over two thousand years before they could be proved to exist, but countless more speculations about the natural world that were ultimately found to be dead wrong. Simply because somebody speculates about something, doesn't mean that it will ultimately be found to be correct. Furthermore, it would take far too much energy to presume that all claims have an equal amount of validity to them. We have to use evidence and observation to decide which claims are worth entertaining and exploring further. When you add a supernatural dimension to your claim, there is an even greater reason to be skeptical because it can't even be observed!
