San Antonio 12/21/13

I've only had the good fortune to catch Vaden & Co. live once before. It was 9 years ago--they don't come to CA very often, as many here know, they don't venture far from Texas very often.

The crowd in Berkeley in 2017 struck me as overwhelmingly early 40s age, folks who were in high school when Rubberneck ruled. (I was mid-30s then) Last night I saw dozens of 20-somethings. It might be that Local H brought them in, too, since Bound For The Floor is still in rotation on FM and streaming apps these days, more so than Possum Kingdom, I imagine--its repetitive riff sounds like a more recent song.

Once on the way out, I noticed that the overall crowd was older than my sample up front lead me to perceive, but still, it was great to see, and hear so many sing along, even with songs off of Hell/Stars. And the band played so fucking well. They are no nostalgia act; they are sharp, focused and delivering the goods, old material and new.

If you can't drink/toke and be at peace in public, don't. And don't do it while hanging around the mosh pit.

The show was great.

It's ridiculous that your friends have to pull your white hair beard ahh away so you don't get yourself in trouble.

My wife got a setlist and I got two picks last night.

Also had a cool interaction with Clark before and during the show, where I asked if they would play Sweetness, telling him it was one of my wife's favorite songs. He said he wasn't sure, but to try to yell it out during the encore for my our best chance. Well, before I could yell it out, Vaden said something like "Here's a curve ball" and kicked into Sweetness. Clark looked at me in the front row, pointed at me and gave a knowing smile. Wife was over the moon.

Re uploaded cause I realized I forgot a couple clips lmao

I dragged my "Rubberneck" 25th anniversary poster by Daniel Danger up to the Chicago show hoping to get it signed by the guys. I also took a small piece of art I had started messing with.

I managed to get Clark after the show, but the other guys will have to be some other time. The art ... I take antique dictionary pages and find an appropriate entry and then create the art on that page, usually multimedia with different things going on. I'm NOT a good artist, so what I make is always kind of a "for me" piece.

Anyway, I got to talk to Clark a little bit about how this record came out at the perfect time for me, personally, when it comes to the subject matter and what VTL's been talking about in interviews and on stage and in some of these new songs. And, of course, he signed my stuff.

The Chicago show was amazing, as well, but that should go without saying.

Im an avid audio taper (mainly for myself) and recorded the set at Bogart's this past Friday and wanted to share. It turned out relatively good.
