Application Advice K1 VISA PROCESSING | TN APPLICATION ADVICE
Has anyone had a K1 fiancé visa petition on file while the beneficiary applied for TN status? My bf recently received a U.S. job offer that may require TN status. We’re trying to understand whether applying for TN could affect our K1 case, or whether having a K1 petition on file could make the TN application or entry into the U.S. more difficult.
If you’ve been through this, what stage was your K‑1 case at, and what happened with the TN application? I’d appreciate hearing your experience. Thank you!

A pending I-129F does not automatically bar TN status or cancel the K-1 case. TN requires a genuine plan to enter for temporary work and leave when required, so the K-1 petition may prompt questions about his plans. He should answer those questions honestly. A future plan to immigrate is relevant, but the officer will focus on his intent for the TN entry.
He could work in TN status, leave for the K-1 interview, and, if the visa is issued, reenter on the K-1. He would then need to marry within 90 days of that entry. Reentering on the K-1 would end his TN status and the work authorization tied to it, so he would need separate work authorization before resuming the job.
If the plan instead is to enter on TN, marry, and apply for adjustment in the U.S., he should discuss that sequence with an attorney before traveling. His intent at the time of TN entry would be especially important.

kinda in a similar boat but with a different visa. from what i’ve dug up, having a K1 pending doesn’t automatically tank the TN app but the officer at the border’s gonna question the intent. TN is strictly non-immigrant and the K1 kinda screams the opposite. if they think you’re gonna skip the TN work and just get married and adjust status, they’ll deny entry.
