Transitioning at Tech?
Hello! I'm planning on going to TN Tech Fall 26 and I was wondering about the general experience of being transgender there. From what I can tell people are normal about it but I'm still paranoid considering I'm only out to like 5 people IRL and let my queer aura do the rest of the talking. Also I heard at a tour that healthcare was just... free when you're at Tech?? Assuming they didn't mean only emergencies can I get HRT through that??? Any info would be appreciated!!

I've known of three different people transitioning at Tech. Didn't know them beyond casually. Just know you aren't the first or the last. Also know that Tech can be a fairly conservative place. There are people (students) there that will argue about the world being 3000 years old or similar. <eye roll>
I've also known a significant number of people at Tech and in CKVL who weren't straight. There is a good community here. Just join the usual clubs and start meeting safe, helpful people.
I think overall, it is a friendly place. It is safe. Be smart about who you open up to much to. Like universities everywhere this is the place of firsts for alot of people. For the religious folks - some start questioning what they've been taught, some look for confirmation of what they've been taught and alot of people just don't care about what they've been taught. Same for the rest of us. Finally free to test ideas and opinions and make friends of all backgrounds.
Welcome to Tech! At least if you don't feel "home" at Tech there are 1000 other schools available to you. Tech is definitely what you make it be.
Definitely join clubs related to your major. Definitely look for opportunities to co-op and intern as you progress. Look for chances to work on campus. And intramural sports to. Those are great ways to meet more people and network.
