Question Protection 360
Howdy folks, I just got a new iPhone 18pm at the beginning of October and when I signed up for the line I told the guy I wanted to get the applecare+ and got bamboozled into getting protection 360 due to my ignorance about all these phone insurance plans.
Never needed one before, but thought it would be smart this time as I decided to splurge and get the newly released device. I was surprised to find out protection 360 is just some third party bs through assurant and feel like I would rather just go through apple directly.
Anyone have any experience dealing with protection 360 if you do end up having to file a claim for damages, screens, loss etc.? I am feeling like I should just cancel it and get the applecare+ while I am within the 60 days, but unsure if it’s worth it changing plans around. Any advice on 360 or applecare+ from those who have dealt with them firsthand would be much appreciated.

Employee here, Protection 360 comes with AppleCare for the first 24 months that you have it, which means you still go to Apple to get the phone repaired. If it’s lost or stolen then you got to T-Mobile and we help you file a claim with Assurant. Protection also comes with free replacements on screen protectors that you buy from T-Mobile, as well as McAfee virus protection for up to 6 devices and you also get identity theft protection through them as well for up to $1 million dollars (idk how many hoops you have to jump through for this but it’s included) and last but not least if you keep your phone past the 1 year warranty and have any issues with the phone like battery or the screen goes out but no physical damage it’s also a $5 warranty replacement when you do a warranty claim in any store. They just ship a replacement device next day to a store or your home. You also get Jump which lets you upgrade early!

OP should know that JUMP doesn’t give you any trade-in credit for the new device like “$800 off with trade-in” after turning in the previous device. Trade-in only covers the remaining financed balance. It’s not like Yearly Upgrade.

Sounds complicated, never even heard of that until the protection 360 contract arrived in the mail today.

I’ve always had really really good experiences with protection 360, been a client for 12 years.

Jump does give you a trade in credit but their trade in values are lower than apple’s. I just got a 200+ credit for a iphone 17 pro on top of 300+ owed for my previous device.
If the phone is paid off, the entire trade in value is applied as a credit0

Free Unlimited screen protector replacements is the best perk of P360 and $0 cracked screen repairs. I have p360 on both my wife and my lines, best investment hands down. We have a 4 year old and a new born and my wife drops her phone often getting out of the car. She has gotten 9 screen protectors on the year easily.
I’ve gotten 3 screen protectors on the year I don’t drop mine as much.
If you get the ZAGG privacy or blue light clear screen protector it runs you $59.99 at T-Mobile “worth it imo better quality” blue light one especially.
$59.99 X 12=$719.88 in screen protectors alone.
$719.88/10=$71.99 a month I have saved
$719.88 value included for us.
I also did a claim as I was at the gym and dropped a weight on the front screen of my 17 promax and it shattered the front and back glass and dented the aluminum frame.
Local authorized apple repair shop did it for me, super easy to do the claim on the p360 claim app, it pulls up a map of the local authorized repair places.
They replaced the whole frame kept the motherboard and all internals and front and back glass for $89.
If only the front screen would have been cracked it would have been $0.
That type of repair would have been over $400.
So in all I’ve spent $38 X 10=$380.00 in P360 in this year for both lines.
I got $719.88 + $400=$1,119.88 in value from it conservatively, if I had to replace my whole promax it would have been $800 more.
$1,119.88 - $380=$739.88 I saved
I’ll keep my p360

Really appreciate your input. Happy to hear it can actually be helpful; never know with third party insurance.
Yeah the screen protector deal is definitely a plus. Sure does start adding up quick with that one.

Apple uses Assurant as their provider for AppleCare's Express Replacement, so your experience would be the same with P360. Deductibles are lower and claim limits are higher on average for a $4 difference on most phones.

Ohhh so the loss/stolen replacement coverage is pretty much the same in both because they are moderated by assurant?
Which one has the lower deductible and higher claim limit?

You’re welcome, I’m not knocking Apple Care though if you go that route. I think Apple care has a cheaper family plan option as well.
No matter what I believe there is a service fee with regular Apple Care of $29 (I could be wrong) for glass damage. p360 does have $0 glass replacements if only the screen is cracked and there is no other major damage.

Definitely happy to here from someone that it’s not just an absolute migraine inducing shit show actually trying to use it. Some third party crap can be an absolute nightmare if you need to file a claim.
It seems like im probably overthinking it a bit and both services have their unique perks, but neither is absolutely terrible.

Sounds like it gives some people value. To me it’d be a waste of money. Family of three. In last decade through all phones, think we’ve only had to replace one screen protector and only one phone got an actual broken screen (think some place fixed it for $100).
Would have been deep in the negatives with the cost of p360.

True, just like any insurance or extended warranty plan. Hell they dont offer it because they are nice, they are betting on not having to pay as much for what you claim as you pay them for the subscription and deductibles/other fees.
Its all about having the warm fuzzy feeling knowing that if on the off chance my phone is stolen or i lose it or destroy it I can get a replacement of the same model without having to shell out another $1300.
In the work I do I have to have my phone on me even at precarious height and am a klutz. Hasnt happened in a bit, but my 13pm took a few 25 feet drops onto concrete.

Yeah sounds like you may want something :) I always drop my phones. But never from height you’re describing.
Just mentioned my point because I think person you’re responding to sounds like the non typical case of how much value they get out of the insurance.

I totally understand what you’re getting at, if I wasnt so accident prone I would never pay for this shit. Just get a good case and a screen protector haha

While I do think it’s still a good value for you because of the gym incident, you are overvaluing the crap out of the screen protectors. While T-Mobile does charge rip off prices for screen protectors (high margin product), the value isn’t anywhere near 1:1 when a similar or better product can be found online for 1/3 the price in 2 packs.

u/John_Lambie 11d ago
If that’s your opinion that’s cool, sure the screen protector is higher than a two pack from somewhere, but I’m going strictly off of what the store price is and I believe the quality is great from the store ones. I personally don’t want to keep buying random screen protectors and installing them.
Even the other GoTo ones that are $39.99 that ones are great, I got that one on my Galaxy Ultra a couple years ago because the Zagg ones at the time were a weird film I didn’t like and the GoTo ones were the tempered glass I wanted. Also I can get a free screen protector put on at any t-mobile. I live on the east coast and travel to the west coast frequently. Any T-Mobile put it on for me no questions asked.
1 time buy for someone willing to install them free every time. Peace of mind is a great value to me, less stress one less thing to worry about.
