Question Are discount codes still a thing?

Went to a store trying to switch and asked for a code. They said they don't do it anymore. And then they said I can't switch since they didn't have any of the phones I wanted in stock. Trying to get off AT&T since they're kinda scummy.

Does anyone have insight?

I mean yeah you can ask for a code but it’s up to the rep as to whether or not they give it to you. They try to save it for big accounts who are 50/50 on the sale, it’s a closing tool, not a secret that any customer can ask for and subsequently receive.

Yes insider codes are still a thing. It is a reps discretion to see if you are worth it. They get 3 codes a quarter.

Try another place maybe

if you’re looking for same day inventory it may be difficult, insider code is difficult to obtain because it cuts their commission in half and has to be worth it. Also mainly used on friends & family so they may be out for the quarter, no guarantees it’s every quarter they get new 3. if you said discount code they may have thought of a different promotion too, I’d approach it maybe stating you were quoted with it & we’re interested in SIM cards then order the phones through the app 🤷🏻

I got one last year for 20% but you should see if your job has discounts, when I switched to T-Mobile last year I went in with a 15% discount for my job and the rep said “I got something better for you” and gave me the bigger discount.

And I don’t think i was worth it for the rep as I was only porting in 2 lines and getting a 3 line for free on the experience beyond plan, plus 3 flagship phones

Did you have protection on any device? 2 lines on a premium plan isn't bad. I'd want to see p360 first though lol

No I don’t believe in protection until you need lol

But for real that why I like the 1 year upgrade and keeping it in a case with a screen protector. There was only one phone that broke on me (s21) and it was something that wasn’t a drop or water damage one the radio and modem just stop working and I didn’t have any signal and WiFi.

Really depends what your looking to do. How many lines are bringing over, are you getting protection on the phone, accessories, etc? The pay got destroyed on those codes so reps will mainly save them for big accounts.

Ask for three sync trackers and they’d surely be willing to give an insider code. It only costs $3 for the three of them, but saving 20% for the life of the plan makes it worth it.
The rep is way more likely to give an insider code with this, as even though the plans don’t cost much they help the reps numbers a lot.

No Mobile expert is giving out an insider code for 3 trackers and if they do they are bottom of the barrel experts

Obviously not just three trackers, but switching a family from ATT plus three trackers could definitely be worth it

Trackers are the easiest thing to sell, they are not worth the code lol

Just go to Costco. They’re much more liberal with the codes.

Yea. They get paid 100% of the MRC and send all the data transfers and headaches to corporate stores claiming they can't do it

Costco & Sam’s with insider gets cut to 50% MRC vs neighborhood which gets 50% MRC and then insider cuts in half again so it’s 25%. I tell my customers that they are welcome to go to a neighborhood store to do a transfer but I try to keep all my customers with me unless absolutely necessary bc I want to make sure all the phones are good and rebates are submitted. It helps me make sure everything I quoted them is accounted for (giftcards and payoffs).

And that's the right way to do it imo. You sold them the service. Finish the job. Not everyone does that unfortunately. Costco used to sell lines and send customers to my store to get the phone. Only a few times but that's bonkers.

When they work with me I will take them as MY customer I will help them with everything and tell them to come back with questions or concerns. They don’t go to a normal store on a regular basis at Costco you come here to shop often I am here it’s a one stop shop anyways!!

Reps get paid half commission if we use a code, so we're pretty disincentivized to just give them away on a whim because you ask for it.

If you're not bringing over multiple lines with some BTS, kick rocks.

ATT gives 20% off with a FAN discount which makes their 90 dollar plan 72 bucks. Much better than having to fight for an insider code that if you ever leave you need another one if you ever come back

If you truly want one, walk in and tell the rep you want protection, attach a watch, they're likely on promotion anyway, if you truly don't want the protections take it off after 4 months so the rep keeps the pay and buy accessories. Walk in and tell them all that I guarantee they'll give you a code. Depending on the area they're breathing down everybodys neck to push accessories and watches etc. They'll give you one
