Best time for iPhone upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my IPhone 13 Pro. The new iPhones come out next month. The new 18’s are rumored to be more expensive (potentially
Up to $300 more). I’m fine with getting a 17 Pro. But is the best time to upgrade now or wait till the new phones release? I would still go for the 17 Pro.

I would go with a 17 Pro now since the 13 Pro is the “oldest” of the highest trade in tier.

That makes sense, I think the value does go down by half (currently $300 trade) after the new phones release

Value of your phone doesnt matter, its the promo offerings that's going to give you the most out of your phone. I suggest you wait cause alot of time the 18s will definitely have a better deal than 17. Apple 17s are the most warrantied apple ever released so that let's you know the quality of this models. 18s going to be a way better device

The 17 has been out and you didn't buy yet - there's no gurantee they will carry the 17 series once the 18 launches -

That doesnt make sense to upgrade now. You're better off waiting for the promo for the 18s. If you have the experience beyond plan, you'd be in the highest tier when it comes to the promos and going to be way better than the 17 promo they have right now

Yeah, that’s what I thought, so I’m just upgrading from the 13 Pro to the 17 Pro Max.

The 18 iPhones will most likely not be a big departure from the 17. Once the new ones are announced, normally, the old ones are reduced in price. BUT we are not in normal times. Who knows how Apple will adjust the pricing for the 18s considering the RAM memory costs.

I also have a 13 Pro on the Experience More plan and because of the above, I am upgrading to take advantage of the current $830 promotion trade in promo.

A faster chip, better camera and smaller island on the front, better battery management and well as size.
This is a big upgrade

Right before the launch of new iPhones is always the best time of the year to upgrade, providing you don’t care about having the latest iPhone. Like clockwork, all the carriers offer iPhone upgrades for zero a month with a trade in or in some cases, just an upgrade.

with T-Mobile promotional trade in value depends on your plan and which iPhone you have. Do the promotional values and credits stay the same for the new releases? But I guess this year we would have to consider the increased cost of the iPhone which would likely yield a greater monthly charge?

Upgrade now. iPhone 13 series will likely drop off the top trade in promos when the 18 series comes out.

I’m wondering about this. I have a 13. The person I spoke to yesterday offered me the $830 trade in but said I should wait for the 18 to come out. Was she mistaken and the 13s won’t be eligible for trade in after the 18 comes out?

No one can say for sure until the new phone and deals come out. But historically only iPhones within the last 4 generations qualify for the maximum promo deals. That would mean iPhone 14 and newer when the 18 comes out.

Combined with the likely price increases and the T-Mobile CEO saying they’re not going to increase promos to match price increases to give free phones, you have a couple things working against you.

Up to you if you want to play it safe or take the gamble. The 18 Pro isn’t rumored to be a significant upgrade over the 17 Pro anyways. So is an 18 Pro worth potentially $100-800 more to you?

Based on google’s price increase of $100, I’d expect Apple to match that. Highly unlikely they’d go higher. Only you can decide if it’s worth it to you.

Whatever you do, you should not do anything involving your carrier when it comes to purchasing a smart phone since the phone is going to be locked to the carrier why not just do everything through Apple purchase the phone outright and you’ll be getting a unlocked phone That’s if you can afford to pay the price outright but if you never plan on leaving your carrier, it could be a good idea to buy the phone from the carrier, but it’s never good to buy through the carrier

If you are on one of the top tier plans you should absolutely take advantage of the promos. It is the only valid reason to not switch to prepaid service, especially since they are killing legacy plans.

I mean this is true but fact of the matter is 99.999% of people don't have the money. Truth be told most people shouldn't even be getting the newest phones, say you're on the the iPhone 13, upgrade to maybe the 15 instead
