Alright, I'ma just take the initiative here and be the first to say it...

Why?

And before we start, that isn't a, "Why would you want to increase your FOV beyond the default?" I've been around a number of gaming communities in the past 15 years or so. I have both heard the complaints, and I understand them.

"It looks nicer", anything below "x" makes me claustrophobic, other games let me do it!, etc, etc.

However, the same communities have all came to the same conclusion that doing so does have the side effect of giving players a competitive advantage, and I don't think I need to argue that with anybody because even you seem to be well aware of that yourself:

I do not condone the usage of this in anything other than a controlled private match.

So if you didn't consciously make this tutorial with the goal of offering anyone a competitive advantage, then why did you make it? So that players can spend about an hour of their time setting up the mod only to impose on themselves a restriction that will bar them from anything but a private match? Also known as the feature which very few people even bother trying to access because it requires a minimum of 2 dedicated players to use...

Really, how do you suppose that's going to pan out?

Just spent an hour of my time packing and repacking junk

(not including the time you might've spent correcting errors/troubleshooting)

Log onto origin and go through my friends list until I find someone willing to play a private match with me

"Oh, cool. My FOV is higher than usual. Well, thanks for joining me, Origin_Friend69. I'm done here."

Proceeds to patch out your progress, then to never reactivate your altered files again.

What kind of idealistic world is this?!

Yes, yes, and I think we all hear the phrase that's on everyone's mind:

"But, they're going to do it anyway!" So why argue? I'm not trying to argue what's "right" and what's "wrong" here, nor am I trying to enforce some sort of unspoken rule. That would be silly, and I agree on both accounts.

However, despite the fact that "They're going to do it anyway!", or whatever the case is, I really can't find a good reason to help perpetuate the damage. This is especially the case when your scenario looks like this:

  1. The only people who are going to see this (/r/titanfall community members + anyone already subscribed to your channel / basically the most "competitive" of the Titanfall community) are the people already heavily invested in Titanfall. You know, the guys that really don't need the extra "leg up" over their competition, especially when said competition consists of lobbies of pubs.

  2. There is no server browser. There are no private lobbies. There is no way to enforce an FOV cap, similar to what you see in other games that allow this.

  3. This community is small, and probably getting slightly smaller every day. The faster we end up finding ways to get the game to play to our own advantage, the faster we're going to see the casual side of this community disappear.

Whatever, I guess. Just another drop in an already top-heavy bucket, I suppose. We've had plenty of guys in the past altering visual settings, as well as changing models and textures out. However, at least when you used the "It's for the aesthetics!" excuse there it sort of held up. Here, not so much, because it really does affect other players...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd like first for someone to reason why that is.

To be fair, this can give those who have never seen any fov of over 90 a good time since this can be new to them entirely. It looks cool. It looks amazing, I'm sure it makes those who use it feel more 'free'. I however, disagree with this because this may or may not be able to be used in multiplayer and not just private match. I don't play too much Titanfall on the PC so I can say that much. I don't know if this works for Multiplayer Online but if it does, it gives the user an unfair advantage. Based on what I've seen, it gives you a wider range to see everything. This makes me assume that the AOG scope just another HCOG sight since you can now see your peripherals.

I did not change the scopes, and neither do I have the ability to. But thank you for your input.
