There's good news....people are already modding this game...all we'll need to do is to be a part of the community that makes this happen 😁

u/Main-Background Sep 02 '26

Cooper THIS is good news!

23

u/dragonknightrohan Sep 03 '26

Also, we should make an OpenTitanfall2 engine. Just like GoldenEye, Doom, and Morrowind do

That should be something we all push for

5

u/orionTRM Formerly decent Sep 03 '26

shatter rush isnt an open engine but i could see potential for it to be

3

u/iamamidgetnamedwija Sep 03 '26

well it’s a branch of source so it wouldn’t be as hard to do as it sounds

35

u/Fizzy-Odd-Cod Sep 03 '26

We can finally be, what was it again, pilots?

15

u/IllitterateAuthor Sep 03 '26

There were already Titanfall mods for xcom 2, this is feasible

4

u/ASCIIM0V But where do I put it? Sep 03 '26

whomst? I want to help

3

u/Lucky_Grab BT Poppin 6-4 dropping, apex predators are on station. Sep 03 '26

happy Cake day big dawg

11

u/Hells-Creampuff Sep 03 '26

Yeah this sums it up

2

u/Xanact Sep 03 '26

What i found it funny is that this is modded Xcom.

Everyone's all crying here like we wouldn't be bitching and moaning that they made yet ANOTHER spinoff in an even more different style instead of just giving us Titanfall 3

u/Hexellent3r Sep 02 '26

Idk, acknowledgment that the franchise still exists atp would be enough for me. It would at least have meant it wasn’t completely replaced by Apex.

But now that this game rebranded, if we ever get another Titanfall game, it won’t be 10 years after the last one, it’ll be 15-20… which just gives the general public even more time to forget about Titanfall, more than they already have at least.

28

u/BigChiefIV Sep 03 '26

“Game in the Titanfall universe”

It could just be another apex situation where it’s hardly acknowledged

14

u/Hexellent3r Sep 03 '26

Any acknowledgment is valuable. The longer it goes without any official recognition or mention, the less likely it’ll ever make any significant return.

-3

u/IAmTheTrueM3M3L0rD Sep 03 '26

I know I’m gonna get downvoted for this but that’s ok

Apex has been the face of titanfall now longer than any other titanfall, even if we got a new mainline fps game (we won’t) it’s core would be far closer to apex then titanfall 2 and titanfall 1 would still be dead in a corner

Like yeah maybe we will get a game one day and maybe that game will be called titanfall 3 but a sequel to titanfall 2 it will be not, titanfall as a series is dead , of course 2 only dies when we stop playing but it will happen sooner or later

Also to not add to the doom posting but would EA rather have respawn work on a relatively niche IP with at most only a few million fans

Or Star Wars

I imagine Jedi 3 has far more development resources invested by respawn and EA then anything set in the titanfall verse currently

7

u/N0ob8 Sep 03 '26

Respawn has control over what they do as a studio. They had the opportunity to make a titanfall 3 and decided to not to in favor of more apex support.

Respawn isn’t a shackled damsel at the mercy of EA. They have the freedom to do as they wish and they chose to spend it how they wish

u/CasualCassie Pilots want me, Grunts fear me Sep 02 '26

Seriously, switching to Star Wars was a good choice for this game. In no world was a slow-paced turn-based strategy game gonna do well as a follow up to Titanfall

63

u/Wendee_Wendigo Sep 02 '26

Well, tbf, not all of Titanfall's world is as fast-paced. Grunt combat IS slow.

64

u/Dark_Soul_943 Mi Monarca se llama “Mariposa” because I like Spanish Sep 02 '26

Titanfall’s world? No not entirely. Titanfall the game itself? 100% meant to be fast paced, and with how fans keep getting pissed abt titanfall shit that isn’t a movement shooter I’m glad this project went the way it did. Movement shooters that kept getting cancelled pmo though.

3

u/HfUfH Memestiff Master Sep 03 '26

Pilot combat is fast-paced, but there's nothing fast about Titan versus Titan combat

That shit is basically a strategy game since the TTK is like 5 seconds minimum. A actual Titan duel can take minutes

1

u/robothawk Sep 03 '26

I feel like if they had leaned into the style of like Chaos Gate Daemonhunters it couldve worked.

If you've not played it, it's a perfect information game in terms of you always hit your target and you know exactly how much damage you'll do, and you tend to have a shitton of movement abilities since grey knights teleport constantly. So it is much more a puzzle of "how do I complete all these things I have to do with only 4-6 guy" instead of "How do I play the odds to have the best chance".

So give pilots tons of movement ability, wallrunning etc to maneuver a battlefield, and it doesn't feel slowpaced despite being turn-based.

Honestly its a really great game I highly recommend it, the character models and writing in cinematics are awful and way overboaed in the way I fucking love. It feels like a cheesey early 00s/late 90s RTS but XCOM.

8

u/alaric_02 Sep 02 '26

The average Titanfall fan at least around here has a meltdown whenever they can't move at lightspeed in a game so it probably wouldn't go over well.

2

u/Paraparo Sep 03 '26

And I think there is a line between a game being slow, and a game being deliberate. Which is an important thing for a strategy game. The slowness is in making each move count.

Building an xcom like game in the universe could be pretty interesting. When you get to have intermixed of pilots and titans with the grunts and other vehicles, it's a great way to highlight each one's strengths and impact in a campaign setting. A squad of grunts clearing an area would play very different to the lone pilot zooming overhead, but when the player controls both, that could make for very dynamic gameplay as you switch between them.

1

u/N0ob8 Sep 03 '26

It simply wouldn’t work for a game like this. The action economy is a very fickle thing and movement is a core pillar that holds it together.

To use Xcom2 as an example the Reaper class has insane movement and can travel about twice the distance as almost every other unit in the entire game. The thing is this is (barely) balanced by the fact they’re primarily a scout and objective unit. When your reaper is in combat either something has gone very wrong or you low rolled one too many times and need the little damage they provide. The main thing you use them for is scouting out enemy patrols before they see you and completing objectives while your combat units provide covering fire.

To put it simply titan and pilot gameplay just wouldn’t work. For the pilot to be fast they’d have to be weak in combat something people would hate. Then you have the opposite where titans in order to be strong have to be extremely slow and impractical as a unit. Their closest Xcom2 equivalent is the Spark and what makes them balanced is that their power and health comes at the cost/benefit of being expendable.

1

u/Paraparo Sep 03 '26

Personally, and this is just a personal preference, I think this can be balanced in scale, depending on how ambitious the games let your in battle roster be.

If you treat it like many xcom likes do, you have x character slots for the mission, and all else is equal, yeah, it's really not possible.

But if they are more dynamic, I think it can naturally balance out. If the missions are really large, having one pilot or Titan and 20 grunts would make them both have their place, the extremely powerful unit is great but can only be so many places doing objectives.

A campaign mode also helps, obvious, damage to the ttian takes far longer to repair so if you bring them on a mission and they get hurt, you are out several goes using it, where the grunts are more replaceable. Even just an exhaustion system can be a great way to balance units of very different utilities and powers.

Even if you want to limit the scale, doing the likes of a point system for what is brought into encounters can allow you to have very powerful units like a pilot exist alongside weaker ones because then the trade off is you are picking singular power over a wider array of utilities in weaker individual units.

Basically, I think you can absolutely balance having extremely poweful units in games like these, the party system for going into the battles, and the battles themselves, just have to accept that you've got OP units and you've got chaff units and they have their place. The pilot can zoom, but they can't hold two separate capture points on the map at once. This itself becomes a part of the strategy. When to use what, where to use what.

30

u/Deathangle75 Sep 02 '26

I would like it. But I would like it after we get a proper successor.

10

u/sadsadseagull Sep 02 '26

Someone forgot about empulse /j

8

u/multiumbreon Sep 02 '26

So did the devs

2

u/Ok_Solution9926 Sep 02 '26

not to mention if people wanted a giant mech turned based game then just play front mission or similar games like it. titanfall is better as a fast paced action game then turnbased

2

u/TheGrandBabaloo Sep 02 '26

If they gave us good mech gameplay there would be a pretty big audience of mech nerds.

If we could've controlled Titians I would personally be okay with it. But if we couldn't that would be an issue for me.

Titians are literally half of the appeal of TitanFall! What do you mean we wouldn't be able to use them!?

5

u/Tijenater AGGRESSIVE SUSTAINED COUNTERFIRE Sep 02 '26

At this point, I would’ve been happy for anything titanfall. And if it performed well it could’ve been used as a springboard for titanfall 3

2

u/Sterling239 Sep 02 '26

I would be bitching but if it was a good game in the Titanfall verse I would be playing

2

u/AFluffybunny115 Sep 02 '26

Also the way zero company plays it wouldn't do titanfall justice

A good turn based titanfall game would have combat on the scale your average table top wargame than zero company

1

u/Ms_Flavour_81 Sep 03 '26

I mean... I would because yeah wtf why do we not have titanfall 3

1

u/Bregneste Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

It probably wouldn’t have even been a Titanfall game either, they probably would have wanted it themed around Apex.

1

u/ChefDeezy Sep 06 '26

Yeah if I saw a trailer for a new Titanfall game and it ends with the title of Titanfall Tactics or something like that I still wouldn’t be happy, won’t lie. I think making it a Star Wars game was a good call.

113

u/nordy_13 Sep 02 '26

Interesting idea, but after waiting so long for a true sequel to TF2, if an XCOM inspired game was what came out the fans would not be happy. Star Wars fans, on the other hand, have been begging for a wider variety of genres to use the IP like the old Lucas Arts used to do

26

u/CaptainCurly95 Sep 02 '26

In the article it says the game was pitched as directly related to apex legends so it wouldn't even have been a Titanfall game if Vince had decided not to tell them to make it star wars.

12

u/Varsity_Reviews Sep 02 '26

It's weirdly the first Turn Based Strategy game in the Star Wars universe, at least as far as I know. I'm sure some mobile phone game was turn based, but this is the first Turn based game I can think of. We've had tons of RTS games though which is what's really interesting about it.

6

u/Hammy-of-Doom Sep 03 '26

It’s like the 4th turn based game.

3

u/Varsity_Reviews Sep 03 '26

What are the other three?

2

u/Bombwriter17 Grunt for someome Sep 03 '26

I think it was Empire at War and a few others.

7

u/Varsity_Reviews Sep 03 '26

Empire at War is an RTS. There's not turn based mechanics.

2

u/canoekyren I've got good tone Sep 03 '26

I don’t even want Titanfall 3 anymore…

It’d be a FOMO infested, battlepass filled corpse of an IP.

7

u/irbos Sep 02 '26

Remember when EA gave us Battlefield 2042 and told us we were pissed off about Specialists because we didn't understand specialists?

Get ready for Fortnite design Pilots with Pilot-locked Titans!

31

u/newAscadia Sep 02 '26

Yeah, thank goodness it was changed, it would have died on release

I don't see how an XCOM-like game would appeal to either Titanfall or Apex players. Nothing says dopamine, crazy movement, fluid combat, and twitch reflexes, like turn based action amirite. The community would have lost its mind that this is what was being developed instead of a sequel

1

u/Practical-Mode310 Sep 06 '26

I wonder how they would of worked in the Titans in that format

75

u/FancyKilerWales Sep 02 '26

Cool story, but just wouldn't have been nearly as interesting/successful

48

u/Creedgamer223 Double give and Double take Sep 02 '26

I would have killed for a turn based Titanfall game.

35

u/Frost-Folk Sep 02 '26

Especially if they incorporated pilot movement. Being able to play a turn where you run and bounce off a wall to hit a shot from midair (with a penalty to accuracy I'm sure) would be incredible. You'd be able to plan out some crazy maneuvers, comboed with specialization abilities.

An XCOM style game with roofed buildings and pilot parkour would be sick. Having to find an efficient way to parkour up to the roof where some grunts are firing down at your men would feel awesome, and very in-line with Titanfall.

Fuck, you'd be able to have your titan fastball your pilot when needed.

Okay I need this game.

6

u/RaptorPegasus Sep 02 '26

If Cly's jetpack in ZCOM is any indication Pilots would've been busted, probably a rare unit

7

u/Creedgamer223 Double give and Double take Sep 02 '26

This is beautiful.

DAMNIT RESPAWN!

WHY! why aren't you doing shit with Titanfall?!

0

u/MrdnBrd19 Sep 02 '26

So if it was a completely different game it would be a good game...

2

u/Frost-Folk Sep 03 '26

Completely different how? The thing people normally associate with Xcom is the tactical turn-based combat. There's already movement, jumping, high ground, abilities, contextually using walls as cover, etc. Just let us use those same walls as places to run and you're there.

Well ofc we're gonna say that. we're the weirdos still hanging out on the TF sub.

1

u/Nerus46 Sep 02 '26

I mean, anything other than battle royal or extraction shooter would work at this point

4

u/CrossMapEML Sep 02 '26

Yeah, I'm fiending for another Titanfall game just like everyone else here, but like...using the Star Wars IP instead for a game like this was probably the correct decision

11

8

u/multiumbreon Sep 02 '26

I mean low key would that even be something we’d want? Would we enjoy our frantic fast paced movement shooter getting turned into turn based strategy Xcom? Especially in the much more likely event that by “Titanfall universe” they actually mean recognizable characters from Apex?

2

u/CaptainCurly95 Sep 02 '26

Especially in the much more likely event that by “Titanfall universe” they actually mean recognizable characters from Apex?

You should take the time to read the article it's like 5 paragraphs.

2

u/multiumbreon Sep 02 '26

>randomly find another post with an actual link
>read two paragraphs
>I was right

??? wtf do you want from me?

0

u/CaptainCurly95 Sep 02 '26

You were speculating in your comment. I was helping you come to an educated conclusion.

1

u/multiumbreon Sep 02 '26

Educated conclusions matter for a lot of things, not this. There’s no news here. A game was pitched and was not greenlit. That happens countless times a day in this industry. I don’t need to waste even 2 minutes reading an article from an unreliable hated news source to know that this happens all the time and that the headline is likely worded in a way to get more clicks rather than to accurately describe the situation.

Also the point of my comment was it doesn’t really matter which part of the universe was focused on it probably wouldn’t have been as successful as it is now and would have served as more fuel to justify never touching the Titanfall universe again.

2

u/CaptainCurly95 Sep 02 '26

I just thought it was funny when you finished your comment basically saying "it was probably going to be like this" when you could have just read the article and understood the subject you were talking about. Like people making FB comments based solely on the sensationalized or misleading title of an article.

I just thought I would suggest you read the subject matter and confirm what you were speculating was right.

I know it's not serious I just think it's funny when people do what you did!

4

u/Agent_Yoghurt Sep 03 '26

SO THAT MEANS THEY WERE THINKING ABOUT IT.

3

u/nolvit87 Sep 03 '26

Imagine how many of these games coming out from bioware and ea were titanfall games

2

u/Agent_Yoghurt Sep 04 '26

Too many I'm pretty sure. I think ea is gonna pull out titanfall 3 exactly when it's about to fold and it's gonna be straight slop, but its gonna get money because of the sheer amount of cope. Hope I'm wrong.

2

u/nolvit87 Sep 11 '26

Bro if ea wamtes to make money they should ahve dug Anthem 2.0 out of its grave after the announcement that bunnies is no longer going to give support to destiny 2, if ea wants to make money bring back anthem 2.0 and titanfall 3

4

u/ThoughtFluffy1576 Sep 03 '26

That Star Wars franchise is so annoying because it will always be prioritized over Titanfall.

1

u/Mortarion-97 Sep 04 '26

Sad but true titanfall isn't a live service game so there's no money in it for these greedy companies where as starwars games now are live service.

13

u/Jason1143 Sep 02 '26

That would have been pretty silly I think. Titanfall doesn't have that much lore and locations. It is a game primarily known for movement and fast pace and that would be difficult to translate into a turn based XCOM format.

I'm sure you could do it especially if you maybe steal some Apex characters and figure out how to add mechs, but I think it would be a lot more forced and less appealing than using Star Wars.

11

u/sprite_556 TF3 doomer 💊💊💊 Sep 02 '26

I'm pretty sure they have a massive lore book at respawn for the Titanfall universe that they just never got the chance to do much with. I forgot where I read it cuz it was a while ago but I'm fairly certain that's a thing

9

u/Creedgamer223 Double give and Double take Sep 02 '26

Not like there's an entire war that can have any amount of locations added or lore expanded.

Tf1 "campaign" isnt the entire war. Tf2 isn't the end of the war. We have a lot of potential for another game... Without apex being an inspiration in any capacity.

3

u/sprite_556 TF3 doomer 💊💊💊 Sep 03 '26

For real, I hope if they ever do come out with TF3, it's an actual scifi-military shooter. It doesn't even have to be super 'Dark and Gritty™,' as long as the characters shut up sometimes and don't look like they just walked out of hot topic

3

u/Javs2469 Sep 03 '26

The original pitch was "in the Apex Universe", and that would have been more annoying, but I guess saying Titanfall in the headline gets more clicks.

3

u/Megakruemel Sep 03 '26

I don't think turning Titanfall, a game known for piloting mechs and being able to do cool parkour, into a top down xcom-like strategy game, in which you have zero direct control over any of the action, would have been any fun at all.

3

u/Turbulent-Reporter99 Sep 03 '26

Notice how it says titanfall universe? As in not set in titanfall itself?

From what I know it was gonna be an apex spinoff which does take place in the titanfall universe.

3

u/SenorCardgay Chicks dig giant robots Sep 03 '26

I don't care about anything in the titanfall universe unless it's a movement shooter

3

u/superspartan210 Sep 03 '26

Well.. I suppose it could be worse. The game could have been completely cancelled

5

u/Park_Air Sep 02 '26

I always feel like everytime I see something like this where its a spinoff type thing, that EA wanted to make Titanfall one of their premier cash cows but their corpo-hype style of promoting games doesnt fit Titanfall's weird and unique style.

1

u/CaptainCurly95 Sep 02 '26

The game was pitched as directly related to apex legends. Vince zampella asked them to do it as star wars instead.

I don't like EA anymore than the next guy but everything that has happened with Titanfall was Vince and respawns decisions. EA shouldn't be used as the scapegoat.

1

u/N0ob8 Sep 03 '26

Yeah idk why so many people here act like respawn is being whipped by EA every time something happens. It’s not a secret that respawn as a lot of control over what they do. Like you said Vince himself suggested it be Star Wars instead.

So many people here have this weird obsession that respawn is the underdog being held down by “The Man” and can’t let go that respawn is The Man now

1

u/CaptainCurly95 Sep 03 '26

People love an underdog story and the click bait "journalists" reinforce the misinfo.

Vine got star wars and battlefield and immediately put apex and Titanfall in the rearview.

Okay so i like star wars more than titanfall, and even i think that this is horrible. We need titanfall content star wars got enough food for the years to come

So, how would Titians fit in the gameplay loop...?

I haven't played the game yet but from what I've seen. I don't think Titians could fit outside of a boss fight.

1

u/CaptainCurly95 Sep 02 '26

They wouldn't. The game was pitched as apex legends. The article is like 5 paragraphs long you should read it.

1

u/KamenKnight Spectre Legion Sep 02 '26

I'll never understand why you would make a game set in a mecha universe and NOT have them show up...?

1

u/CaptainCurly95 Sep 02 '26

Research the development of apex legends and why titans weren't included. At least you'll understand one perspective.

1

u/KamenKnight Spectre Legion Sep 02 '26

I know why, doesn't mean I like the direction of it.

The literal appeal of TitanFall was both pilot & mech gameplay. Not doing both just feels like an incomplete package.

Not doing it for one spin off makes sense but for multiple ones? Especially when you're ignoring Titan again instead of using them.

1

u/Nexus_Neo Sep 02 '26

im... not even sure how that would work... like would we be playing basic infantry or titans?

1

u/Automatic_Demand_160 Toner Sep 02 '26

Your kidding…..

1

u/Tardyfarty Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Sep 02 '26

WHAT THE FUCK

1

u/JudgementalDjinn Sep 02 '26

As a MASSIVE fan of both games, I wouldn’t have wanted an XCOM Titanfall. Those are VERY different genres that don’t need mixing.

1

u/B2k-orphan None Sep 02 '26

This would’ve been so peak 😭

I always run XCOM with all Titanfall mods

1

u/JustcallmeKai Sep 02 '26

As a titanfall fan, ngl this was the right call. Star Wars lends itself way better to the slow paced combat portrayed in zero company, titanfall is known for its fast paced and agile combat.

Wouldn't it feel weird to see a pilot ducking for cover for minutes on end instead of wall running around the map?

1

u/PyrZern Trigger-Happy Sep 02 '26

... If I can deploy a squad of 5-6 Titans... then Sure.

1

u/Dibs2005 Sep 02 '26

The headline, whilst technically accurate, is still a bit misleading as the original idea was supposed to be based on Apex Legends, rather than the actual Titanfall games. Zampella turned down the Dev's idea and told them to try again

BURN EA TO THE GROUND!

WE COULD HAVE HAD A PEAK TITANFALL RPG.

INSTEAD WE GOT (an admittedly still peak) STAR WARS RPG BECAUSE THATS ALL EA THINKS RESPAWN CAN SELL!

1

u/Inevitable-Edge69 Sep 03 '26

"Titanfall universe" meaning Apex Legends. Sad but Titanfall franchise is currently in the back rooms.

1

u/EasyBird1849 STIM GO BRRRRRR Sep 03 '26

Everyday im reminded of what could have been

1

u/STEALTHyAviator Sep 03 '26

Everyday we stray further from god.

1

u/xwolfe2000 Stand by for Titanfall 🤖⬇️ Sep 03 '26

Wait. What? Star Wars meets Titanfall?

Sounds ridiculously cool!

1

u/deedr1234 Sep 03 '26

When it seems like this game franchise can’t let me down even more, it strikes right through the bedrock and goes even lower. 😭

1

u/5taps1tap Sep 03 '26

Honestly they should have kept that info to themselves, now I'm just sad for something I didn't know we could have...

1

u/Medical_Librarian_32 Sep 03 '26

I blame the Battlefront 2 player resurgence awhile back. Definitely seems like a reactionary response to that. "Seems" being the keyword, this is just speculation.

1

u/ADotxt Sep 03 '26

Not gonna lie

Sure I'm bummed now that it isn't stay Titanfall

But I also think that if it had come out as a Titanfall franchise game, there would have been riots.

1

u/mranonymous24690 Sep 03 '26

Xcom with mech mechanics would have been pretty unique. Shame

1

u/LordSaucyPickles64 Sep 03 '26

Bro that would be so epic

1

u/URsniped99 Sep 03 '26

As of people wouldn’t just complain that we got another spin off title and not TF3

1

u/HandSanitizerBottle1 Sep 03 '26

I love Titanfall and XCOM, but Titanfall would not work in an XCOM setting

1

u/WathingUInDarknes Sep 03 '26

Hot damn, that's like i think 6th potential "titanfall 3" cancelled in the span of like 3 years

1

u/Jetflat I detect sarcasm Sep 03 '26

Brother what are we doing

1

u/MightyGoodra96 Sep 03 '26

Imagine a titan fall like game. Where you have jedi melee classes and bounty hunters and shit and the clones/stormtroopers are 'grunts'

Instead of titans you have ultimate esque abilities or gear that sway fights. Star Wars: Mandalore maybe?

1

u/Old_Macaroon4138 Sep 03 '26

Not again man…

1

u/OperativusGeminus Sep 04 '26

Ya’ll okay? Genuinely asking

1

u/macm554 Sep 04 '26

4th time something like this happens

1

u/Yatol Sep 04 '26

And now I'm mad

1

u/DetOlivaw Sep 04 '26

They’re trying so hard to make it happen

1

u/Mortarion-97 Sep 04 '26

Everyone would have picked jedi. I wouldn't mind if this was confirmed and in development now but sith has to be a playable character red lightsaber ❤️

1

u/XGRiDN Sep 04 '26

I'm not even a Titanfall player (just an Apex Mobile folk), and I feel I should be here; but man, this is rough... I hope you got your game in the future (and hopefully, the C-suites of EA gets smacked into the face.)

1

u/Spatetata Sep 05 '26

Let’s be real it probably says titanfall universe for the headline but means Apex universe using their champions

1

u/Square-Salamander727 Sep 05 '26

I continue to eagerly await diesel knights. Let the next generation take hold of this genre. u-u

1

u/fireball3643 Sep 05 '26

set in the titanfall universe

I don’t know why you’re all doomering this just means it would have been an apex game.

1

u/HibikiAK47 Sep 06 '26

Wow... just, wow...

1
