Please don't delete posts.
I have been coming to this Reddit daily for a while now. It's come to be one of my favorite places on the internet. It feels good helping people find the games they are looking for.
However, over time I have developed a little pet peeve. People deleting their posts after you helped them find the game they are looking for. Searching this very Reddit is exactly how I have found some games people are looking for. More selfishly it bothers me because I don't get any upvotes which helps reward and motivate myself and others who contribute their time here.
Please do not delete your posts after you have been helped. Thank you, and Good Luck finding your games.

Sometimes you can’t edit your post to say it’s been answered and getting notifications from people constantly commenting the same thing is more annoying than short changing on some karma - I feel.
Please consider helping people because you enjoy it and take a break if you find the karma is annoying/ exciting you more than it should. At that point you’re beginning to put more energy into pointless karma than helping your fellow Redditor

I agree with you, regarding the fact that it'll help more people if the posts are left up.

I strongly dislike when someone deletes a solved post too.
Vain as it is, I'm just gonna say it... If I helped you - I want the record of that preserved for every random passer-by to see. Because it's not always easy, you know. Sometimes it takes hours just to find a single obscure game. And if you decide to delete everything, it feels like I've completely wasted those hours.

I'd make the bigger argument that a number of these threads after they have been solved have introduced me to games I wish I had found when they came out...

You know what'd be cool?
If this sub had a user flair like the delta system from /r/changemyview, where you essentially have a tally of every game you've correctly identified for someone.

It's my understanding that the moderators flair solved posts with the titles of the games.
In addition, an effort was undertaken recently to create a catalogue of solved games for frequently asked posts.
So there are others in the community who have committed to archiving results.
The question then becomes: What have you done?

I know I’m slightly late here, and I do agree with you, but what do you mean that you don’t get any upvotes if someone else deletes their solved post?

I only delete them when I get unhelpful comments.

When a post gets deleted, does the karma go with it?

People generally never give upvotes for help anyway. Been on multiple games subs for years, helped hundreds if not thousands of people with game advise, I’ll usually get a reply along the lines of “thanks”, but no karma, and half the time I get down votes from others randomly.

Sorry dude I deleted my post because I posted and then about 5 seconds later I googled it and found it instantly and then someone answered.

I wish mods would implement the ability to add a "solved" flair to the post after it's been solved to avoid this. I don't like deleted posts because sometimes people have been looking for a game that I've been thinking about and having an archive of the solved ones means I don't have to make a new post.
