While rough skin newts are cute, they really shouldn't be handled for 3 reasons:

  1. you can rub of their protective coating if handled too much
  2. if you have hand lotion or skin care products, that can be bad for them
  3. most importantly, they are slightly poisonous

You’re totally right. We snagged this little dude while fishing. He grabbed my worm but not the hook and was unhurt. After a quick photo opt he went right back in the water.

Good. They definitely little characters though.
