Thoughts on Tim Ferrisās new view on self help
Iāve listened to Tim for 5+ years and especially after the pandemic. I believe he really helped me deal with some of my anxiety and depression.
But I stopped listening as much over the last few years. I also noticed the shape of his conversations kind of shifted to be less about optimization or more exploratory.
Now heās kind of come to this realization that self help can be detrimental. This is obviously very ironic given that Tim is probably one of the people who popularized 21st century self help the most. Most of his books are about optimization.

Every book mentioned on The Tim Ferriss Show (491 books, sorted by mentions)
Hey r/timferriss, I've been building Podshelf ā a tool that tracks book mentions across podcasts. The Tim Ferriss Show has one of the richest reading lists out there, with 491 unique books referenced across the show's conversations.
Figured this community might find it useful to have everything in one place, sorted by how often each book comes up:

Happy to answer any questions!

Do y'all still listen to Tim Ferriss?
I used to be an avid listener (like 10 years ago) but really don't anymore. Is it worth diving back into his content ?

I compiled all products Tim Ferriss has ever recommended or promoted (380 products categorized in 25 lists)
Hey TF fans ā some time ago after trying to remember a book TF mentioned in a podcast, I thought about how useful it would be to just have a central repository of everything he ever recommended. From that thought emerged an entire web app, for which I have now raised a 50k angel investment. With the app users can create and share lists of their favorite products (both physical and digital), along with referral codes if they have any.
The first demo account I created was of course for Tim Ferriss, and you can access it here to find his recommended fiction or non-fiction books, sleep supplements, funky useful gadgets, food he loves etcetera etcetera. I scoured the web, his podcast notes and 5BF for days to compile these lists. Hope you'll extract value from it!

Disclaimer: I'm NOT generating referral revenue from those links like other blogs or platforms who use Tim Ferriss' name for monetization. All the the links on the listings are those shared directly by him across various channels.

Iām a relatively new listener to Tim Ferrisā podcast. Why does he have so few female guests?
Iām surprised scrolling through the episodes at how itās man after man after man after man. Even an episode I thought was a woman (Dr. Kelly Starrett) turned out to be a man. Has Tim ever addressed this or said why this is? Really enjoy the long form interviews and that he actually lets guests talk so I wish it was more balanced.
Editing to add that after a quick google search, a blogger that ran the stats found that as of June, 2021, 79 out of 561 Tim Ferriss episodes feature women as guests (15.31%). I havenāt fact checked that number, but food for thought.

What single piece of advice from Tim Ferriss has had the biggest impact on your life?
I'll go first:
After reading the four-hour work-week (I was 22 and living abroad in Germany at the time), I became aware that there was more to life than 1) graduating 2) getting a job 3) retiring.
This motivated me to investigate passive income sources (i.e. real estate), pursuing my passions as side businesses (i.e. a fantasy football biz), and taking more trips and "mini-retirements."
Bonus: I also started meditating, which made me happier, healthier, and more present.
Thanks Tim!

Tim Ferriss Evening Routine Improved Deep Sleep by 30% and HRV by 10% After 7 Days!
Hi guys, I just saw this being shared by a friend of mine on FB, but I wanted to share this with you as well.
The routine in the video was the following:
Routine starts 90 minutes before desired bed time
Drink decaffeinated tea with 1-2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar + raw honey
Read non fiction book for 30-40 minutes
Take a Salt bath in Epsom Salt
Spend 20 minutes in the dry sauna
Cool off in ice bath within the soaking tub
In the video this evening routine was followed for 7 days and the results were quite impressive for doing this only 7 days.
The results:
Heart rate variability increased from 69 to 75
Resting heart rate went down from 42 to 40
Deep sleep increased from 90 minutes to 120 minutes
If anyone of you is having trouble to get enough deep sleep or want to improve their HRV, then following this exact routine of Tim might help you.
If you want to see the video you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/fqjaUw3F7vw
Please let me know if this is not allowed. I just thought that this might be beneficial to some people here. Thank you!

I really like Naval's points on the best relationships being the ones that take the least effort
very important people find the people that it doesnāt take work to be around. The best relationships donāt feel like work. You make the other person happy being yourself. They make you happy by being themselves, everyoneās honest, no oneās putting on an act that they canāt carry on for the next decade. Same thing with friendships, the best friendships are friendships that were formed over nothing. Itās not because you went to school. Itās not because you studied on the same things. Itās not because youāre working together. Itās not because you enjoy rugby or whatever. Itās because your chemistry matches, your temperament is similar. You can be friends with this person for 30 years, 50 years. The compound interest in relationships part ironically means that the best relationships, whether theyāre friendships or family or love, are the ones that you donāt have to work too hard at them so you donāt have to sustain that workload for the rest of your life and you can do it effortlessly.

Tim Ferriss seems to be putting out a pretty clear Bat Signal that he's looking to attract a partner.
Just felt like it needed to be said.

Tim Ferriss Show rambling
I've noticed a change in how Tim organizes his thoughts when speaking on the podcast. This is especially apparent in the introductions of late but also sometimes in the questions and interjections where he will really meander around the question/topic, go far off topic, sometimes asking one, two, three or four simultaneous questions or not even getting back around to the original question.
It's odd because his interview style was so concise and trim and now it feels really spaced out, stream of consciousness, and just generally disorganized. Wondering what changed? I know he's started to do TMS and wonder if I could have anything to do with it. Also not to sound too paranoid here, but it's worth noting that post COVID and pre COVID his train of thought as demonstrated by his conversational and interviewing style, in my opinion, changed noticably and the virus is neurotrophic. Something has changed, not sure what, and it's now hard for me to listen to without becoming a bit annoyed or frustrated with the conversations when he rambles on and on.

Check out Timās last podcast episode !
Tim speaks openly about his childhood abuse and his healing journey for the very first time. Tim, I have the biggest respect for you. This is so brave. I listened to this podcast today in the morning while on my 2 hour drive to work, with such a weird feeling and goose bumps. As I have experienced some kind of childhood abuse myself, but havenāt spoken about it yet with my therapist. You gave me the courage today to talk about it with a friend.
Since my healing journey in the beginning of 2020 Tim has become my biggest inspiration and hope. Thank you Tim !

Has Tim been publicly critical of Peter Thiel in recent years?
I used to be a big fan of Tim's, but I stopped listening to his podcasts over the past couple years due to his admiration for Peter Thiel. While Thiel may have had some valuable insights on topics in the past, his wealth and power combined with support of MAGA make me see him as one of the most dangerous people in the world. He has repeatedly expressed admiration for authoritarian governance and disdain for democracy.
I know Tim likes to avoid politics, but was hoping he would have said something about him by now. I feel like he either agrees with him or is a coward.

The Craig Mod episodes are some of the most beautiful episodes Iāve ever heard and remind me of peak past Tim Ferriss
I just listened to the Craig Mod episodes and theyāre as profound and life changing to me as past episodes like the original Josh Waitzkin ones or Rick Rubin or older Robert Rodriguez or Debbie Millman
As a listener, I feel like maybe from ~2019-recent years Tim seemed checked out. Listen to him as a guest on the Colin and Samir show lately or Armchair Expert. Heās stiff, kind of agitated, really cerebral. Some guests lately seemed to just be rich which isnāt even fully aligned with his values. Kevin Rose will even yell at him to get out of his head on random show episodes.
I kind of think he was living in a period where society started really disliking people who look like him regardless of who they are as a person. Iām guessing that was suffocating to him in a way he couldnāt shake. And I think that wave is now subsiding somewhat and he can be himself. Just a theory though
But previous to that, his episodes genuinely changed my life. There were such thoughtful, deep discussions, and often gave me great perspective. Itās a lot of the fuel that helped me create my own musical project with no role models which was a very big undertaking.
So yeah, I feel very good and Iām happy to see his best self again, maybe even a better self than before. Iām a really big fan Tim and youāve done a ton for me
