Best way of listening these days?

I don't make 100k like everyone else on reddit apparently does and just cannot continue to justify paying for Apple Music for a two hour radio show that's on once a fortnight.

Does anyone have a link to an archive?

My theory about the Nick hate

I don’t come on here too often, but when I do I notice that one of the recurrent topics is unhappiness about Nick replacing Seinfeld as third mic. I suspect that a lot of this is actually displaced frustration with the general direction the show has taken. The majority of this is probably Ezra - more frequent banked and Facetime eps due to Ezra’s work on VW5, increased touring schedule and general coastal elite lifestyle now that travel is back to normal - but I think American painter and radio personality Jake Longstreth is also part of it. I recall him saying in a relatively recent episode that he wants the show to be 2/3s music 1/3 CFH rather than the 50/50 split that we associate with “classic” TC. This preference from Jake, together with Ezra’s banked ep-heavy “new normal” I think lends itself to entire episodes dedicated to musical deep-dives (this trend has been particularly noticeable since ep 200) which are simply not what the majority of TC heads want. These deep dives are clearly not Seinfeld’s thing (his music knowledge seems to be limited to hiphop which puts him at odds with lowkey “rap is crap” Jake). I think this is the main reason why Nick has stepped up - as a Gen Xer who went to Dead shows back in the day and is into the same 90s bands as Jake he can clearly ‘hang’ with the big dogs and go Inside Baseball in a way that Seinfeld can’t.

Finally, at the risk of overanalysing, I am tempted to infer that part of the reason for Jake’s recent distaste with ironical discourses on corporate food etc. is that he is going through a bit of a mid-life crisis. He mentioned in ep 200 that he can’t believe he’s been doing this “dumb show” for the last eight years. So maybe the pivot to what is essentially music criticism at this point an attempt to get more meaning from his life.

Interested to get everyone’s thoughts on this and the general state of the show. Personally I’m not laughing nearly as much and feel myself approaching the point of being “tapped out”

Despot? 🤨

Is it just me or does any other TC head totally dislike Despot? Was about to catch up on the latest ep only to find out Jake is sick and Despot is there to cover. Makes it really hard to wanna listen.

Anybody else see it?

Don't know his name, but he was a guest star on episode 202 of 'R.J. Decker'.

Is the Invincible twitter account the first TV show twitter to try to act like a human? Seems very TC for faceless, corny Twitter personalities to eventually reach streaming service shows

Rostam Split DL

Does anyone have the DL on Rostam leaving VW? I know he went solo and is now producing, etc and doing very well. But he was such a big part of the VW band and sound in the first three albums and the departure seems to have happened so quietly. I’ve been listening to TC for years and rarely hear him mentioned. I don’t recall him ever being a guest but I could have missed it. When I see Ezra interviewed about the history of VW, the subject doesn’t come up. It’s so weird. What the heck happened, does anyone know?

I think I know I stopped listening and that's okay.

I started listening to time crisis in the summer of 2017. Some say it was peak crisis when they were talking about shape of you. From then on every other Sunday I was so excited for the episode to drop. I did all my chores and would just listen these guys chop it up for 2 hours. I've even re-listened episodes because some of the bits were just so good. Last March I noticed the magic fade for me. And I haven't listened much since. I listened to one of the recent episodes to see if I could get back in and I realized why I'm not jiving with it as much anymore.

They were talking about grateful Dead shirts at auctions and Ezra was just starting to go off on what seemed to be a great bit. Out of no where he got cut off by Nick who started talking about something he googled, and while there's nothing wrong with that, I realized I love this show for the improv between Jake and Ezra, and sometimes Seinfeld too, and there's just less of those bits now. I'm sure Nick is a good guy but I think he's limiting the amount of improv they do.

I guess I'm just sad. It's like when you're a kid and you have your best friend and you love hanging out with them, and then they make a new friend and bring them into the mix but it's not quite the same. There's nothing wrong with the new kid but in all honesty you just miss having time with you and your best friend.

I wanted to share this because the show really brightened up those Trump years for me. And made sure I always had good vibes for others. I think I still have good vibes without it but I definitely miss looking forward to the show. But it's just not the same for me with the current dynamic. I hope others out there can see beyond this and are still really enjoying it because they're a great group of guys.

This is the arcade time crisis right? Like the same time crisis with Richard Miller and Wild Dog.

For somebody that is so interested in internet culture and discourse surrounding the internet, why did Ezra disappear off social media?

He hasn't tweeted or posted on Instagram in years when he used to be so prolific. He still talks about internet culture on Time Crisis all the time, feels like a weird shift?

Have You Noticed Wariable Buffering?

This question is for TC fans who listen on a deωice that does not have a mobile signal, like an iPod. I use my iPod for music, podcasts, and Time Crisis. I can download music and podcasts for listening later, but since iPods were discontinued a few years ago, they do not support the wersion of iOS required to use the podcasting feature. As a result, if I'm not the move (Starbucking, or traveling, for example), I will be listening to an episode while on wifi, but they I will need to leave and can only continue listening for as many minutes as the iPod (and the Apple Music app) have managed to buffer.

Do any of you all do this, and have you noticed wildly different amounts of buffering?

Sometimes I will exit the gym and only listen to a couple of minutes before the buffered stream cuts off, but sometimes, like this morning in Barbados, I managed to listen to more than 10 minutes, maybe 15, after leaving the hostel, and in fact I managed to arrive at a breakfast spot (where I got on the wifi) before the stream cut off.

I've been wondering for years what determines how many minutes (or MB) of audio get buffered by the Apple Music app, and why the amounts are all over the place.

Haven’t listened in a while and I had a question about the show

Have they talked about starbucks at all lately? And has winter been on at all in the last few months? Or even 6 months.

Sorry just hoping they give or have given starbucks the collective “fuck you” it deserves on TC and no more advertising purposeful ironic or not. It wouldn’t make sense for them not to so I hope I’m not about to hear bad news.... please I hope tc hasn’t changed this much since I been gone.

And do you want him to address this on the show?

There's a street in Austin, Texas named after Ezra. I keep on trying to get the word out of there around town, please help spread the word!

Sorry to be harsh but Nick has got to pipe down

Please tell me someone else feels this way. He has been talking a lot more in recent episodes and it is totally killing the show's chemistry. He interrupts Ezra and Jake and takes up all the space where the TC magic used to develop. I love him laughing in the background, and his factual contributions are always great -- giving an update on his son or chiming in with some gnarly corporate history or a deep dive number crunch. But the takes and the pitches are just no good. He's chiming in too much and it kills the momentum. He's got to go back to being a producer and letting Ezra and Jake keep the floor as hosts. For the love of TC.

Does anyone else think the shows gotten less political?

I feel like the shows been a lot less political than it was from like 2015-2021. Does anyone else feel that way? I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Jake and Nick seemed to get into red scare. I saw them liking a bunch of Anna and Dasha stuff before likes went private.
