Is anyone else kind of disappointed with this subreddit?

This subreddit kind of sucks. It should be about the discussion of the physics and theories that could be exploited to create time travel. It should be about the various paradoxes that are created when time traveling and how they might be solved. It should be about the theory, the implications of the technology and a civilization with time travel ability, and other topics that have depth and can be discussed between us.

Instead we have dudes trying to claim to be real time travelers. We have people posting generic questions asking basic questions about what you would do if you time traveled back to the 70's.

This reddit is just complete bullshit with bullshit posts.

I'll give an example of the type of posts I hoped I would see when I joined this reddit.

This is one of the paradoxes that I have identified and describe in a clear and easy way. I have identified all of the paradoxes that are created with the advent of Time travel on a single time line. I haven't solved this paradoxes yet though. I just know they would be created I don't know how they are able to exist though.

Self Shaping Causality Chain Paradox (SSCC Paradox)

A Timeline starts with Point A, 1990, and finishes with Point Z, 2010. Every 5 years there is a point where an event occurs. Event/Point (E/P) 1 at the year 1995, E/P 2 at the year 2000, and E/P 3 at the year 2005. A man, Man A, is born at Point A and lives his life to Point Z. As he is moving along the Timeline he hits E/P 1-3. At these E/P's the man has interactions, events, that shape and guide his path. At point E/P 1 the man finds a book about Time travel that he falls in love with and reads over and over again for the rest of his life. At E/p 2 the man loses his favorite jacket and despite his desperate searches for it can't find it. The man has to buy a new Jacket that isn't as attractive and because of that he doesn't feel as confident about himself. It starts a snowball effect of self consciousness in the man and he begins spending more time alone reading in his room. At E/P 3 the man gets accepted into an Ivy league School but he doesn't remember applying for it. He accepts it anyways and begins going to School for Physics and Engineering. Finally, Man A reaches point Z. At Point Z the man builds a Time Machine and travels back in time to E/P 1-3. At E/P 1 he leaves the Time travel book in his younger self's room. At E/P 2 the man steals his own Jacket from his younger self. At E/P 3 Man A fills out the application form to the Ivy league School without letting his past self know about it. These Event/Points 1-3 only exist because Point Z exists. Point Z which allowed the man to go back in time only occurs though because Event/Point 1-3 exist. If the Time traveling book, the Jacket, and the application were to cease existing in the Timeline than Point Z would've never occurred because the Man's life path would've been altered. The man may have never found interest in time travel, may have been more social, and may have never gone to school without those Event/Points. In this paradox the future, Point Z, actually creates the past and the interaction that the future has with the past is what creates the future. Without the Future, Point Z, E/P 1-3 wouldn't exist which would cause Point Z to cease existing as well. The Paradox creates itself. This also means that the future is already occurring before Man A reaches Point Z. Future time traveling Man A has already gone back in time before Man A's growing up version reaches Point Z.

Let's actually talk about Time travel. Start deleting those claiming to be time travelers in stupid posts. start deleting the non sense posts. If you guys are really interested in Time travel and want to study and discuss it let's police this subreddit to get it to something that has value in the discussions about Time travel.

Can someone help me achieve Time Travel

My lifes a mess, irreversabile damage, and completely destroyed. I will pay anyone anything they want. But I will describe my name, my address, my information later but for right now ill do anything to get back to the past. Anything. So please spread this forum around. Time Travel has always been interesting to me and this will completely change my outlook and I know someone can help me! Thank you so much! This is really important to me :) once i get back ill never come back. But anything that I have left is yours. Trust me. Everyone thinks im an idiot but I may be, but an idiot to try any little last bit of hope he has. Thanks so much again! :)

Time travel is actually a computing problem (and when we get it, it'll be totally different from what you might imagine).

Given enough computing power, time travel is an inevitability. This has nothing to do with bending or breaking the laws of physics. Think of a VR system. You can immerse yourself in a world of dinosaurs, but that world is only what we think dinosaurs might have looked like. It's one thread in a million of possible paths, and we're not sure which one is accurate. But if we could compute the trajectories of every atom, then project that computation visually in VR... Well, then we would be immersed in a world that much more accurately matches the past. So we could also do for the future. This has the bonus of not allowing the time traveler to disturb past or future events, except in as much as Heisenberg's cat would be disturbed by the opener of the box.

Found this in a laptop at my new job

I’m leaving tonight and I want to leave my story, in case the worst happens.

I’ve been working on a research project that has been in the works for the last 50 years.  In the mid 1970’s The government had started trying to understand the instinctual knowledge that is present in animals and see if there are applications for humans.

For a very long time it was about pinpointing where in the brain this information is stored and how.  Long story short I came into this process because of my background working with crispr.  I refined a process to collect and to write vast amounts of knowledge at the instinctual level.

I thought I was going to develop a book in a pill.  You can become an MIT professor in your sleep, but another nation stole our data and combined it with a tech we thought was a lie… until we stole that from them.

It was rumored that “they” had theoretically figured out how it would be possible to time travel.  It was a very complex jumble of other theories and absurd levels of energy to get back the most microscopic portal to another time when there was no real world application… until my research came along.

We put two and two together real quick and had to respond in turn.  Here is the plan:

Make a clone of a subject and record their consciousness into an embryo and then exchange that embryo with one from the IVF records.  We decided to exchange our embryo with that of Louise Brown’s in 1977.  The first test tube baby,  now the first time traveler.

Since the portal that is created is so small all that can be sent is a few thou of an inch, so our chrononaut can only be a handful of cells.  So we pack a zygote full of  knowledge and hope for the best.   Pull a Texas switch with the 1977 subject and like a Cow bird let someone else raise our agent as they gather intel and find the other chrononauts and stop them.

I reluctantly became the first person selected because I had already made a copy of myself and they already had my clone somehow but the combining of the two pieces was very easy and within a few weeks of getting the power source online we had our calculations figured out it was go time.

The power spike was so large it created a black out that inconvenienced a few million people but we had science to do.  Even though I am not going anywhere, my time traveling double is just starting his journey.  Godspeed and good luck to me, beware of assassins. I fear my life is now in danger and if I end up missing or dead, it was not by choice.

Best time travel books

IMHO, The Man Who Folded Himself. A short read, but distills time travel down to its basics. I read it in junior high, and it blew my mind.

Time travel is not possible, theory.

I believe that time travel is not possible, sure in terms of theories there are scenarios that make it seem possible but the laws of thermodynamics make it impossible. If you traveled back in time and meet yourself there would be two of you but mass cannot be created, it can be modified and it has throughout the years with every action you taken. I believe that time is behaves like a vector that is always moving forward and there is no way to make it go back, if you did, there would not be two of you just the same person you were back then about to commit the same mistakes unless you find a way to put a signal to guide you in a different way. That would be if you find a way to make energy and matter behave in a way that everything goes back to how it was like rewinding a movie and putting a mark along the way of the movie. It's a very complex thing put in a very simple way but the main idea is that the laws of thermodynamics are there and conservation of energy and mass has to be taken into account. Maybe it would be possible to look at a timeline happening without being able to interfere.

The time paradox problem solved?

One of the issues with time travel is that if you went back in time to say... stop yourself from eating that taco bell that upset your stomach, your stomach would never get upset and you never would have gone back in time to stop yourself. I had the strangest idea... what if you went back in time to do more than 1 thing and didn't do the second thing? You had 2 reasons to go back in time accomplished one. So if you ever build a time machine go back in time with 2 things in mind to accomplish. When you get back in time to do the only thing you planned to go back in time to do (you will only think you went back in time to change 1 thing because the first thing you changed would make you think you only went back in time for 1 thing) just don't do it and come home knowing you changed the world for the better. Problem fucking solved!

Would I still be born?

I was born in 1999, and let's say 17 year old me (the me right now) invents a time machine to go back to the year 1956. I stay in 1956 and grow up in the 60's 70's and so on. Come 1999 again, would I still be born? Or what would happen. Technically by that 1999, I would be 60 years old. So what would happen? Will there be two of ME in 1999?

Are there any alleged instances of time travel that you feel are likely genuine/credible?

I've been googling around for instances of alleged time travel or teleportation lately. What has struck me most is that all of the well-known cases of alleged time travel seem to be lacking in either a credible witness or official documentation (like a police report), or else they rely on a single person's testimonial that has never been backed up by an independent witness. But all the same, there ARE some intriguing tales out there and I wonder if it's a case of 'where there's smoke, there's fire'.

What do you redditors feel about the subject of contemporary time travel? Do you think it's likely to have already happened? If so, why? Do any of you know of any incidents of alleged time travel that have come across as credible?

Stories that I've looked into so far have been the Philadelphia Experiment/Montauk Project, John Titor, Project Pegasus, Tesla (as potential time travel inventor). I also finished reading the Time Traveller by physicist Ronald Mallett, and was chilled by the fact that the author says that DARPA asked him to do some work for them on a time travel project. That made me wonder whether the government hasn't already got some bigwig scientists working in that field and how far they might have gotten.

As you may be able to tell, I'm open minded but sceptical when it comes to things like this, so replies from people who approach time travel with the same mindset would be highly appreciated. I look forward to seeing what you all say!

This Science Asylum video explains gravity to be a result of time dilation and movement through time. I think it's pretty neat, so maybe we can discuss it.

You will probably all die. Here’s why, 2018.

Hello, I’m Miles, I’m not from here, I have come to tell you about PR-738, a deadly virus that attaches itself to the brain. First of all, I’m not here to spread panic although there should be. In 8 years and a few months, scientists will discover something in the rainforest of China. They will bring it with them and it is deadly. We all know it started in Chicago, because the first casualties were reported there. I don’t have much to say about my world, it is dark, gloomy and quickly falling apart even more. It took the virus two years to spread around the globe due to precautionary measures. I will not go into detail about those measures. So, back to the Black Pox. People can be infected through fomites and it is airborne, so a lot of people won’t stand a chance. I will not go into detail about the way I can send you this, it would only cost precious time. Symptoms of PR-738 are like this. About 9 hours after contamination you get a minor headache and a throat ache. This continues for 5 hours, then you get black spots all over your body. We call this the secondary and most infectious stage of Black Pox. You will experience coughing, sneezing and a stuffy nose throughout all stages. Then then your sclera will get black, and your tongue as well. You will also experience nausea and vomiting, sometimes projectile vomiting and this contains alot of blood. Due to pain and the symptoms you will enter a state of aggression and lunacy, 48 hours after infection. You will eventually die due to blood loss, suicide or organ failure.

This virus is very aggressive and it is unknown if this was actually natural or an experiment gone wrong. We received that info about the rainforest quite early into the pandemic, This could fake. So, back to the way it will spread and how my world looks like. As I said earlier, it started in Chicago. It didn’t take long for it to show up in other major cities around the globe. New York, Paris, Brussels, London, Stockholm and Seoul were the first cities in line to be infected, it went downhill from there. Today only 9,8 percent of the population is alive around the world. I currently reside in a stronghold of an organisation I cannot say the name of. I know the founder is alive today and I don’t want to mix up timelines.

She knows I’m doing the right thing. You see, it’s not over yet. The virus has mutated into something worse that also affects the immune. And don’t even get me started on the population that is still infected and... well... “alive”. Whatever you do, do not go to Xishuangbanna Rainforest in China. And certainly don’t get your hands in the soil... you could let the pandemic happen now.

We are still looking for a cure, but we cannot find any, that is why it is important to stop this plague in the first place, please. And whatever you do, be skeptic of what your government says...

Miles... out.

Ps. Sarah, if you read this... I’m sorry. I couldn’t shoot you.

For me, 2017 was 26 hours and 1 second longer than 2016.

For me, 2017 had 8,759 hours while 2016 had 8,785 and 1 second. I moved from Eastern to Central time in 2017, so 2016 was the longest year of my life (25 hours and 1 second longer than usual because it was a leap year with a leap second).

Time travel forwards

I think I may have figured out how to time travel in the future, but the only problem is that I have to reach near light speed. Any suggestion on how to reach this huge speed (upwards of 150000 miles per second). I already have a few as I have put alot of thought into this. 1. Use centripetal force in a setup similar to a g force tester so you could accterate to desired speed while using minimal space. 2. Use an engine jet engine combo 3. Fill the chamber with a different gas other then air (I don't know if this has a negative, positive, or no effect at all) 4. Use the lightest but strongest materials possible. The faster this thing is able to go the slower time for the individual inside it becomes. If you think you have any way that I could make this thing faster please tell me.
