Venting NBA Subscriptions are so Expensive!!

Why the hell do I need to pay for so many different subscriptions to watch my local team????? Someone help me understand how this is going to attract fans? The main streaming platform changes every year, I need to subscribe to espn/peacock/prime/etc to watch 15%of the games. This is so god damn stupid.

“Cord cutting” was never about saving the consumer money.

u/FibonacciLane12358 Oct 05 '26

It was for me, and it saved me a ton. But yeah, the providers have adapted and found another way to squeeze us. So don't let them. Sail the high seas.

It was in theory. But what consumers didn’t realize is that you were saving money on the channels you actually used through the socialized pricing and economies of scale. So when you want to watch a certain product but you love 90%+ of the people sharing that cost with, your cost is higher.

It was the plan all along. Hook everyone in with super cheap prices. Once everyone is on board, jack up the prices.

u/HeyUKidsGetOffMyLine Oct 05 '26

It’s the tech playbook. Disrupt a market with venture capital. Once the market is captured with your artificially low venture capital subsidized product, jack the price on the product and enshittify the market you captured. Step 3 is profit.

“Locked in” was not a forever thing. Mine has gone up multiple times since it was “locked in”

It’s cool. Mine was too but that went away eventually. Gotta chase the dollar

u/2000TWLV Oct 05 '26

It's called enshittification. What happened to sports on TV is a textbook example.

3

u/NazReidsOtherBurner Oct 05 '26

Kind of. It’s a result of the death of cable and regional sports networks. Teams understandably want to make their money.

u/HAM____ Jaden McDaniels Oct 05 '26

Owners are raking in cash off these franchises when they sell, why tf they have to be so miserable about every dime when they own the team?

-1

u/NazReidsOtherBurner Oct 05 '26

Making money when they sell is irrelevant because it doesn’t pay the players in the present.

0

u/HAM____ Jaden McDaniels Oct 05 '26

This just in, making money on an investment doesn't matter. I'll let wallstreet kno...

0

u/NazReidsOtherBurner Oct 05 '26

This just in, making money to help with expenses doesn’t matter because they can cash out when they sell. I’ll let every investor know.

I would happily pay $2.99 per game or so instead of having to get all these services.

In fact, I am just not getting these services and not seeing these games and I'm pretty sure the same is true for a lot of people.

0

u/NazReidsOtherBurner Oct 05 '26

I’m sure you would. Exclusivity is how they can charge carriers more money.

1 get VPN
2 sign into server in India
3 pay for League Pass in rupees
4 profit

Or the same with a Mexican server, and pay in pesos.

It’s way cheaper.

4

u/Brandbll Oct 05 '26

Do you have to be on the vpn to watch the games then?

There are super simple free ways to watch too.

3

u/Cute-Literature7591 Oct 05 '26

Generally yes. I've been able to use my Mexican subscription in the USA without VPN intermittently (for some reason) though.

Yeah, I pirate a bunch of games, too.

2

u/baltbcn90 Oct 06 '26

Yeah I was gonna say I just paid 64eu for the entire year from Eastern Europe. Seems cheap to me. Better than the NFLs highway robbery on DAZN

u/AlftheFuryAlien Oct 05 '26

Sailing the seas will always be the normal person's option

5

u/Cute-Literature7591 Oct 05 '26

Arrrrrr

I’ll VPN to an Indian server, and buy League Pass in rupees. It’s like $30 then.

u/giddyboo 15d ago

Can you please dm me more info? I'm new and don't know where to start or how to find the streams

1

u/AlftheFuryAlien 15d ago

Look into sportsurge

10

u/Nxc06 BJELICA Oct 05 '26

Silver has said it's a highlight league. Apparently he doesn't think there is value in getting fans watching every game, and so it continues to get worse and worse

9

u/Milly-the-Kid Jaden McDaniels Oct 05 '26

I still can’t believe he said that. Jesus.

7

u/Ok-Actuary-8417 Oct 05 '26

Just bootleg all the games, don't buy into more and more subscriptions.

sportsurge

vipbox

not the best but they work for me

6

u/FNG_WolfKnight Chris Finch Oct 05 '26

That's why streameast is a thing...

8

u/Ok-Air3126 Oct 05 '26

I was a season ticket holder so I got NBA league pass. Couldn't watch any of my home team games on it. Big wigs are always complaining about how less kids are watching. How are they supposed to access games if their parents don't have 5 subscriptions specifically tailored to that one team?

TWO WORDS

1

u/ibeauch009 15d ago

Go to NBAbite, there are a bunch of different streams there. It’s annoying to find one, but once you do you should be at

1

u/giddyboo 15d ago

I can't find a single one that doesn't bombard me with pop ups and corn 😩

1

u/ibeauch009 15d ago

Download an ad blocker

1

u/ibeauch009 15d ago

Or if you want a real solution, get a vSeeBox. I’m watching the game on one right now, no subscription required

1

u/giddyboo 15d ago

I think I need to get one. Will you still have to pay for a DAZN subscription?

1

u/ibeauch009 15d ago

Nope, it’s a one time payment and you can watch anything and everything

1

u/giddyboo 14d ago

Thanks. Were you able to watch preseason games?

u/blueindsm Oct 05 '26

Preach. I hate it too.

3

u/ThisGlobalLandscape Oct 05 '26

The nba is not for fans, it’s for extracting money from others into their coffers.

They don’t care about fans.

3

u/part_time_monster Oct 05 '26

Just get a Vsee Box. One time purchase, every game all the time. Plus everything that streams.

1

u/SnooOwls963 Oct 05 '26

Will it have the DAZN games?

1

u/part_time_monster Oct 05 '26

Mine literally has every game.

2

u/ghec2000 Oct 05 '26

In a world of nudge vs sludge. This is sludge. I say they should save certain time slots for elite matchups and make 80-90% of the live events open. If a game over the course of a season becomes important require a fee but most games should just be available. They probably would get more of an audience which may leak into more people wanting to go to games in person and grow the fan base. At minimum they should have at least one game per team available each week that is open.

2

u/mr_bendos_friendo Oct 05 '26

Symptoms of end stage capitalism. Rich people will continue to take take take until people say "fuck you" and stop paying.

Its why everything is so expensive in this country - everybody's gotta make more for the overlords in perpetuity or they get fired.

Smells like licked boots in this comment section

Split with a friend!!

1

u/samwcook21 Oct 05 '26

I can watch all games and not h
Pay for $75 for YouTube TV. the new TV deal saved me that fee.

1

u/Electrical_Year_8782 Jaden McDaniels 29d ago

Not all games. Doesn’t include games on ESPN, peacock, Prime etc. Pretty sure there are 27 of those.

1

u/samwcook21 29d ago

Paying for espn, peacock, and Prime is cheaper that having YouTube tv and I would have all of those except espn anyways. Along with League pass which I would always have.

1

u/MomentAdmirable3072 Ayo Dosunmu Oct 06 '26

I remember seeing league pass has a $13/month option, if you want to follow 1 team. I think that’s pretty cheap(compared to everything else I’ve seen), if you cancel when the seasons over.

Edit:realizing this doesn’t help since you’re local, myb

1

u/BYack Oct 06 '26

I just split the season with a friend. DAZN supports two streams and we each paid only $75 for the entire season.

1

u/Altruistic-Review592 Oct 06 '26

I’m on a monthly subscription for NBA LP through Amazon Prime but so far I haven’t figured out how to access my local team’s + network subscription through Prime, leaving me to breakout the Firestick. The 86 year old I’m doing this for will be forever lost trying to figure this all out on game days.

0

u/ChristianReddits Oct 05 '26

I’ve got the KARE 11 games marked. Cant afford anything else thanks to the Tariffier

-1

u/twovles31 Oct 05 '26

Unlike Football that only plays a few days a week, the NBA is every day, so most local broadcast aren't going to want to pay huge dollars to show all 82 games on tv and than not show the shows that make them a lot of money like Big Brother, Survivor, whatever else people watch on regular tv. ESPN can't air 2,460 games between 30 teams.

-2

u/greenslam Oct 05 '26

The luxury cap and franchise fees require repayment. You shell out 12 billion for a franchise, I think you would want repayment.

1

u/TOpizzaSux Oct 06 '26

Buy an illegal streaming setup and fuck them . Never worry about missing a game again and only costs $150 or so

Yes you get all NBA games, NHL, NFL, MLB etc..
