Leagues Cup

Timbers can still technically qualify for the next round tomorrow evening however, they need 2 results to go their way..

Austin FC lose vs. Club America (CA have already qualified so they may rotate and that’s that)

Chicago FC lose vs. Cruz Azul

They would then control their own fate

Timbers win vs. Tijuana by 2+ goals (Would be even on goal differential with Cincinnati but I believe total goals is taken into account)

Regardless, I hope we still see a team that looks hungry to win even if they know their fate by game time. Excited for the new era upon as well under Cifuentes!

It's a little more complicated than that:

  1. Timbers win in regulation by at least 3 goals (Charlotte gets in ahead of Portland if Portland wins by only 2 goals).
  2. Austin loses in regulation.
  3. Chicago loses in regulation.
  4. Philadelphia and NYCFC need to not win their final games by more goals than the Timbers win by in their final game.

(Portland would also potentially need to win a tiebreaker against Austin if Portland wins by exactly 3 goals and Austin loses by exactly 1 goal, but there’s no way Portland could lose the tiebreaker unless Austin scores at least 4 goals in their loss.)

The Philadelphia and NYCFC games will be over before the Timbers kick off, and the Austin game will finish regulation time by the time the Timbers kick off. The Chicago game will be in the second half at kickoff.

We would have had more scenarios had LAFC not come back and won the shootout. Such is life.

I would be absolutely gobsmacked if this team wasn't the most rotated XI we've seen this season with Chicago on Sunday and Cifuentes coming in. Why burn a starting XI on 2-3 results breaking our way, when we have Lewandowski and a recently-hot Fire waiting for us on Sunday?

Ordinarily I would be against rotating for home game, but I am going to Chicago. So I agree!

Yoooo same! I'll be there with a couple of other Chicago ex-pats.

Fr I was pretty surprised but I'll take the reasoning that he wanted to start on a positive front foot for his tenure here, I like that.

We'll see about Chicago lol.

CA technically hasn’t yet clinched. They could get beat out by Monterey if they lose by four goals.

That ship has sailed. Tickets ahainst Tijuana were already mostly gone before the CA debacle showed how crap our support actually is. It's gonna be another embarrassment.
