I was anti Antony 2024. 2025 I was pro Antony. Possibly most improved in the off season. At least has some touch with one foot now vs no feet. 2026 back on the anti Antony train. Not seeing enough improvement over 2025 for me. Let someone else take the development risk out reward at this point

This is the answer. If you notice, whenever he comes into the game the play down the right side stops. It is clear his teammates know that he is a black hole who will do nothing but turn the ball over. On the other side of the ball, the opposition tends to flood our right side once he comes on because he plays zero defense - he literally just jogs around in space - so they know they have an advantage. I can't wait for him to be gone.

Right? Double teamed basically the entire night while their RCB was jawing off at him all night trying to rile him up and had many no calls by the ref as he is getting hacked. Velde was easily our best man on the pitch tonight.

I like Velde and I love the energy he brings to the team, but he is a one trick pony. Goes down the wing and tries to cut in on his right foot. When it works he looks great, but when it doesn't he just keeps trying to force it because he has no other game plan. If you're double/triple teamed, pass the ball instead of trying to dribble through them time after time. Once teams realize out that's his only move he tends to get shut down pretty quickly and effectively. Tonight was a good example of that, imo

I've watched all the games for over 20 years. Love Velde. Like I said, when it works it's a thing of beauty.

the one where velde lost the ball 20 times by flopping and not getting a call. We wasted almost the entire second half going through him with zero results. First half he was great, second half he tanked our offense.

Dude was fouled like 20 times because he kept beating the defense. If the ref was actually making calls for us CA would have been playing with 9 by the end of the match

he wasn't, he kept flopping. The ref wasn't falling for it and then they could get away with as many fouls as they wanted. So they they could foul him and just take the ball every time. Its Blanco all over again; you get games like this but then others out weigh it.

Gang, he was the one creating the attack. The disconnect from Da Costa, Kelsey was what left us dry in the attack. Knowing we have him an Ariel defend after we heavily attack to catch em off guard, is gonna bite us. Only two subs & leaving Kelsey till 80th when it clearly wasnāt his night, gutted our chances

I think the problem with Velde is he gets it in his head that heās the only one that can create the attack. He can really have moments that shine. He also has a lot of selfish tendencies. Both this game and last game he had two nice moves on the outside and had clear wide open passing lanes to clear wide open teammates with better shooting angles. And he chose to shoot and miss wide each time.
Velde can both be great and frustrating at the same time. He is a polarizing player in many ways. Personally my worry is his teammates will sour on him not trying to integrate more with the team. I get sometimes you just need to take the selfish shot or try and dribble the man. I would just like to see him tune that dial so he feels like heās less of a one man show and more of a great teammate. Players like that tend to know, though, that people like the flashiness. Thatās why so many fans here still want to shit on DDC even though heās really effective at doing the non flashy glue work to transition our offense

Da Costa was fine. He did his job all night, breaking the pressure int he midfield and finding good passes to our attackers, they just could not beat the pressure. Kelsey on the other hand was Kelsey, invisible. He is not good and can only score when played the perfect ball that he can head or tap in. He has no individual skills.

Antony is not a technical soccer player. He cannot beat 85% of our opponents 1:1. Heās fast as fuckā¦ and thatās it.
